Macias Cuban Sandwich Deli LLC — Restaurant in Tulsa

In Tulsa, there is not a single restaurant that has a proper Cuban sandwich. It's uncomplicated, really. Roasted pork, ham, swiss, dill pickle, and mustard pressed between Cuban bread. No need to spin it. It is delicious as is. At Macias, they understood the assignment here. Is it the BEST Cuban I've ever had? No. But that's unfair for me to say. I grew up in the city that invented them. But to have a good, AUTHENTIC Cuban in Tulsa is a sigh of relief. To put it simply, it is the BEST you're going to get in Tulsa. My ONLY complaint was with the papas rellenas that I ordered. Now, when I tell you, I was EXCITED to have one. I miss them, honestly. Growing up in Tampa, they are staple at any Cuban deli or restaurant. So I was practically jumping for joy as I took my first bite. The crust? Great. Potato? Just as good. But the filling...that's not the right filling for a proper papa rellena. Cuban Picadillo is saucy, tomato-y, and well seasoned. The middle of mine could only be described as ground beef with softened onions. Not saucy. Not super flavorful. It fell out of the papa rellena, and was just meh.

Overall, I'm going to try them again. I'm stoked to see they have ropa vieja. But I'll be going in having it straight from the source: Havana, Cuba. Bar is fairly high here, but I'll keep an open mind. That being said, I'm glad Tulsa has a little taste of Cuba, and I...

I have to say this. I moved here from Tampa, Florida, the home of the BEST CUBANO SANDWICHES IN THE UNITED STATES. This restaurant takes me back home! I've been craving the Cubano food since moving here. Thank God for this restaurant. I've ordered twice this week from them! I can't get enough.
