On the Good Side of Average Mexican Food Monterey’s Little Mexico has restaurants in the Houston, Texas area and a couple of them in Oklahoma. I had dined at the one in Pasadena, Texas many times while living in the area. Their current location on Sheridan used to be a Monterey House. We used to dine there too, when we lived in Tulsa in the 80’s. It has always been a good solid “go to” Mexican restaurant, it still is. Their lunch menu is a fairly priced selection of good, and good sized Mexican combo meals. My wife had the #1, she thought it was great. It was a cheese enchilada, a chile con queso tostada, and a seasoned beef taco and with rice and refried beans. I had the carne asada and ordered a chili toreado to go with it. The meal came with rice, charro beans, avocado slices and tortillas. I prefer carne asada simply char grilled and not smothered in onions peppers and cheese. The meat was a perfect medium rare and as you would expect with this cut of meat, a little chewy. It was served on a hot cast iron platter just like a plate of fajitas. The charro beans were spicy. It was still a good meal. It is a good, consistent in quality, restaurant for Mexican food. Service – Average. If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've...

The food was okay the service well they need to hire someone like this guy named Mr Gonzalez who's been in the hotel restaurant industry for 30 years and is now retired and does training for how to work faster better and easier with the best customer service available. I am a restaurant owner, not a competitive but any means but I'll tell you what, after the training with Mr Gonzalez, my employees were actually happy to have learned what he taught them he has a training manual called saving steps and it really saves your steps and anyway we ask for some stuff that they claim they couldn't give us what we wented , then the manager came out, and told us again no we can't give you that little dip of cheese white cheese because we do if you have to do it for everybody else, I said what kind of answer is that we'll pay for it cuz I'm sorry that owners don't want us to do that. Myself as a restaurant owner have always told my employees my servers whatever our guests want, if we have it in house, you bet you were going to give it to them.

You need to call this Terry gonzalez, he has a very extensive resume and he is a fun smart nice man give it a try restaurant people you can seriously increase your customer service...

Lunch service is usually good but the dinner service tonight 7-9 was absolutely terrible. Our appetizers (spinach crawfish dip) took FOREVER to come out and when we finally did get them, the chips were overcooked on one side and raw dough on the other side, not to mention finding a super long hair in the dip. We asked for refills multiple times but it seemed like the waiter either forgot or didn’t give a damn. We ended up refilling our salsa cups our self out of the little container thing we found on the side after running out and asking multiple times for a refill. There were 3 other tables that came in after us that got their food before we ever did (we had a party of 6, they had parties of 4). When we did get our food, 3 of our people got their food and almost had it finished before ours finally came out to us. (Also 1 order was incorrect) They were out of all alcoholic drinks as well. Not to mention they don’t even have modelo/corona (what kind of Mexican restaurant doesn’t carry modelo or corona??!). All in all, it was an exceptionally bad time and we unfortunately won’t be returning any time soon. Only giving them 2 starts because their fajitas are usually the best. Rather unfortunate time...

I previously saw this place reviewed as "on the upper side of average Mexican food," which totally nails it as for a description. It's a place that we'll surely go back to, and overall the dining experience was great. Service was quick, polite, and knowledgeable. The tamales we good, and the flautas were filling, and the chicken in them was great! Granted, my gf and I both come from families where authentic Mexican food is the norm, but this Tex-Mex was a good substitution on a grey, cold day in Tulsa. are, the guacamole would b better if it had a more of a spicy kick to it, but I get it... not everyone is into the spicy. You can't forget the $1.99 Coronas or house Margaritas, though. Not the strongest Marg in town, but maybe the cheapest. Beggars can't be choosers, right? I feel like as long as you go into this joint with realistic expectations then you'll leave here pleased, full, and happy. I would've rated these guys as a 3.5, but unfortunately that's not an option. I will say that this is a place that I'll be back to again.

The food looks so good I didn't really remember to get pictures hahaha We went at 3:30 on a Sunday and the restaurant was mostly empty. Our hostess, waitress and cashier were the same amazing lady. I wish I would have gotten her name because she definitely took care of us. The chips and salsa they bring out in the beginning were delicious, We ordered a medium queso and they only had white taste so that day which was fine We thought it was delicious.. the salsa was kind of spicy but the chips were thin and crispy. I ordered the chicken and spinach deep fried roll up and it was so hot and good. As usual Granny got the cheese enchiladas and she ate two of the three of them which says a lot about a restaurant. My husband got three chicken enchiladas and he ate his entire plate and there was not one rice grain left. I did include a picture of my mostly eating chicken lol
