WoW!!! Mind is blown. Oklahoma Joe's where the hell have you been all of my life? Folks, I've got to say, the food is absolutely amazing.
I stop in today, for the first time, at the 61st & Sheridan location. Right from the get go I was like a deer in the headlights. I didn't know if I should wait by the door for a server or what. A few seconds of looking around and I spotted a menu and ordering counter on the back right side. I walk back and a young, friendly, order taker asks what I would like to eat. I tell her I didn't know as I have never been here before. I browse over the menu for about another 10 seconds when the Manager, Ryan, comes from behind me and says Hello and ask if he could help me. I told Ryan I didn't really know what I wanted because I've never been here before. I tell him I am pretty hunger and want something with alot of food. Immediately Ryan suggests the Grand Champion Platter. He let's me know exactly what is on the platter and sells it to me perfectly. He is very knowledgeable about what his product is.
The platter comes to the table with everything you see except it is missing the bologna. I never intended to write a review as I thought this would be another mediocre place. Boy was I WRONG! I eat the bologna first, because my opinion that is the worst meat. But eating the bologna I immediately realize I AM NOT in a mediocre place! Holy $#@t this place has good food!!! That is when I decide I need to take a photo.
Folks, let me tell you....everything is spectacular. Even their pickles are on point. Crispy pickles. Every single bite you can hear the snap on the pickle. Amazing! That and the BBQ sauce..........oh my GAWD!!! I seriously could do straight shots of that as it was so good. Pulled Pork, Brisket, Sausage, Hot links.....oh my! Speaking about the Hot link, it is perfectly seasoned. It has a lil bit of kick but not much. Which is perfect because I do not like spicy food. Next was one of the sides I order. The Spicy Coleslaw. Omg! Out of this World. The only criticism I had with the food, which I found after Ryan had checked on me, was that the toast wasn't buttered. Which they might not do that because some people don't like it, but I do. That is literally the only criticism I could find with the food. If you've had Burn Co. in Downtown Tulsa, then try this food. In my opinion, it stands toe to toe with Burn Co. And a bonus, coming to Oklahoma Joe's you won't have to stand in line for 30 to 45 minutes waiting to order.
Now, I also would like to point out the service I received here. From what I gathered, this place is a D.I.Y. place, you order, they bring food to your table and that is it. Drinks you get yourself. But with Ryan knowing I had never been there....I think he went above and beyond providing great service to me. I seen him running around taking care of a bunch of tasks, but yet he still found time to check on me and he even refilled my drink for me. I will DEFINITELY be coming back because this place has friendly people, a GREAT MANAGER (Ryan) and truly amazing food. Folks, if you are reading this comment, take my word on it, this place is not a waste of money. You will get every penny outta your dollar and then some.
Ryan and Oklahoma Joe's Thank You for a wonderful dining experience today. I...
Read moreDO NOT USE PAGER HALL Facts only, no ego or bias: OK Joe’s dropped the ball a couple years ago. They canceled our booking short-term because some other group needed the room. Gave them another chance. This time our reservation was honored. Came by, saw the room & made arrangements for our event at Pager Hall about 5 days before the event. Bella answered my questions but was not forthcoming with helpful information or tips for room set up & best flow. Event day: Buffet for 100 people served about 5 minutes late, not a huge deal. I realized 45 minutes into the lunch that there was no lemonade or alcoholic beverages (despite prior arrangements), the pre-scooped cups with ice were almost gone, salad was empty & we were completely out of glass plates from which to eat. Told there were no more real plates available until the ones we just used could be ran through the dishwasher. We were given Styrofoam take out boxes to eat from, only later discovering disposable plates tucked below the meat at the far end of the buffet table. Cobbler dessert was served on time but we had to request plates & wait for spoons. We brought Blue Bell ice cream to go with the cobbler as Bella said they did not serve ice cream, but had a freezer we could keep it in. After 3 hours in the “freezer” the ice cream was melty, soft-serve ice cream soup. (OPINION: What kind of BBQ restaurant serves cobbler without ice cream?) The manager on staff was rude and insistent she had not received instructions to open the bar for us. Wasted time going to the computer to prove to me this was the case, when I just needed action right now to fix the “45-minutes with no lemonade or alcohol” problem. She said they had 2 employees that didn’t show up for work, thus there were 2 people to work the front restaurant + her, and essentially we’d have to make do without help until the next employee arrived in 15 minutes (at the conclusion of our meal). An 18% service fee is added to the cost of food to use Pager Hall. Bella said this fee covers a couple staff that will monitor the buffet line and provide service during the event. For our group, the fee came to around $350. Spent $2750 total and received very disappointing service. If you expect top quality service for your important event, OK Joe’s BBQ is not the place for you. *After the 45-minute mark when I took action, Terri was made available to help us full-time and Johanna helped when she arrived at 1:00. They were helpful & on staff for the rest of the event, which was unfortunately not the time we...
Read moreMy husband suggested this place because they catered to the finery that he works at and it apparently is awesome. Now I am very particular were I eat and the environment and this place was very nice, open and clean, I will say that much. The greater was bad, I didnt catch the welcome statement, it was weird. Then we sat down and waitor was decent he wasnt bad, but the food was nasty. And that's a understatement. The Mac N cheese was HORRIBLE. It had a vinegar taste. I had the catfish meal and I asked the waitor are the pieces a good size and he emphasized that they were and 2 pieces would be fine. Then the plate was served and he was so embarrassed that he said, oh that's not our normal serving, and that he would bring an extra piece. Really. My kids meals were all horrible. The hot dog looked like it was pre-heated and stuffed in a bun and my daughters chicken tenders looked old and re-fried. My order came with 2 sides none of which I ordered. They gave me Cole slaw that look like the cabbage was aged or sat out too long. The only thing good was my husbands rack of ribs. Here is the really bad part. A LADY CAME OVER TO SEE IF WE WERE ENJOYING OUR STAY, MAYBE LIKE A MANAGER, AND WE TOLD HER THE FOOD WASNT THAT GREAT, AND SHE LISTENED AND SAID WELL OUR RIBS ARE GOOD, AND WALKED OFF. Now listen I HATE and I mean seriously HATE to feel like maybe there food and service would have been better if we were not a BLACK well to do family. And I really dont want to feel that way, but deep in my un-satified stomach I felt that if we were just a few shades lighter we would have had a better outcome. My review is my review, I love all shades, types, and sizes. I wish that feeling was...
