The Oly Grind — Restaurant in Tumwater

We have always been curious about this place, but it has never been open when we go by (usually around 7 to 8am or so on weekdays - that is even pretty late for a coffee shop). Now I know why. No coffee menu posted, no prices, seemed quite annoyed when I asked if they had oat milk (I’m lactose intolerant, so alternate milk is important).

When the coffee was ready, I didn’t get a price until my card was already run, and there were no markings on my two coffees as to which was the oat milk latte and which wasn’t.

I can totally understand not wanting to chat people up while focusing on making coffee, but I did end up mentioning to her as she was trying to rush me along that I have never seen hours posted and I was curious when they are open. She literally said “We open whenever I get here. We don’t have set hours.” My face must have been just in shock as I drove away. I have never heard of someone just showing up “whenever” and being open however long they feel like it. Must be nice???

When I got home (about a 3 minute drive) the coffees were way too scalding hot, zero foam on either “latte,” and mine tastes horrid. 0/10. Would...

I have been a frequent visitor to Oly Grind, but my experience has been increasingly disappointing. Approximately 50% of the time I go to get coffee, they are closed. This happens even during their posted business hours. I've started checking their hours before heading over, yet more often than not, the place is still inexplicably closed.

On the rare occasions that I do find them open, the customer service leaves much to be desired. The staff is not very friendly, which dampens the experience even more. Consistency and a welcoming atmosphere are key for a coffee shop, and unfortunately, Oly Grind seems to be lacking both.

TERRIBLE. First time going here and the only employee was outside either filling up their water from the hose (health code violation), or drinking from it? She had to ask for my order twice because she was too busy on her phone to listen. Then she stood off to the side texting the whole time she made my coffee. When I asked if I could have a punch card she literally just said "no"!? Definitely not going here again, especially since the coffee was absolute TRASH/not what I ordered and tasted like burnt garbage. Don't waste your time or money, at least not if the snotty brunette is the only barista. Owner may want to hire someone with social skills or even coffee making skills to help...
