Got carry out from here in order to have a bite to eat without suffering Tuscaloosa game day traffic. This particular instance of Broadway Pizzeria is connected to a gas station, but you can't enter the convenience store from the restaurant, so it has a more complete, restaurant-type vibe than many other gas station restaurants.
The individual who gave us our order was a little awkward but overall pleasant.
This pizza is the kind where the toppings are buried underneath the cheese. Not really my style, and I panicked a bit thinking that they'd forgotten my pepperoni! I missed the crunchiness pepperoni develops if it's baked on top of the cheese - beneath the cheese, the meat winds up extra oily and floppy. Also, I'm guessing the cheese wasn't baked entirely into the pizza - it slid almost entirely off with every bite. I used a knife and fork to mostly negate the problem, but I wish I hadn't had to. The pizza also had a ton of grease on top and a slightly funky aftertaste - not sure if that's a result of the cheese or the pepperoni.
On the bright side, the crust was AWESOME, and so was the dipping ranch we picked up. I mostly ate the garlicky crust with the ranch and ignored the cheese and pepperoni. My boyfriend liked his wings, but I thought they were a bit on the sweet side.
Overall, an average experience. Dominos is cheaper and closer to us, but I might be willing to try a specialty pie and see if...
Read moreAs you are heading out of T'town on Hwy 82E don't blink or you might miss stopping in at Broadway's Pizzeria - South. (It's in the same building as the gas station.) I've eaten many times at the original Broadway (still located in Tuscaloosa) and this one is right on par.
The owner brought in a wood-fire oven that you can see when standing at the counter. Plenty of seating and they deliver. The only drawback is when pulling into the parking lot you have to navigate around the gas pumps to find parking.
Since they've opened the new location I've stopped in a couple times and tried their Italian Hoagie and Muffuletta, as I stated earlier right in par with the original location. Will have to test the Manhattan pizza next. :)
By the way, for those of you looking for a beer, this is not the place. Tea and Pepsi products.

Read moreOrdered a large cheese calzone and a medium pizza first of all the calzone I’ve always known it to come with ricotta and cheese. This was more like dough and a little bit of cheese and very flat second was the pizza flavor. OK toppings great really on the small side for a medium I thought a medium would’ve been like 12 inches. It says 12 inches but more like 9 inches Really small just didn’t seem right and the dough not seasoned right something off about the dough just didn’t feel very fresh same thing with the calzone didn’t seem fresh and some of the dough wasn’t cooked all the way worse was the marinara sauce. It just tasted so wrong. I don’t know what’s going on, but they seem to be slipping. I hope they get their mojo back. They used to be one of the...
