Earlier tonight, I stopped at the gas station attached to this Godfather's location. I purchased a ready-made Godfather's pizza and two beverages. When I went to check out, the cashier was talking on the phone and did not acknowledge my presence. I think he may have said, "Good" after the exchange was final, or for all I know, he may have been still talking on his phone to the other party. In any case, I then took my pizza and drinks into the Godfather's dining area, where I sat down to eat. Once finished, I walked back through the store to exit the building. A few moments later, two employees sprinted outside to accost me and accuse me of stealing the pizza. One of these employees was the man who disinterestedly rang me up a few minutes prior. They eventually realized they'd make a mistake and I was on my way.
I realize that something like this could happen in many circumstances. However, I am certain that my incident was caused by the cashier being on the phone and being wholly disinterested during my transaction with him. Had he been paying attention, he likely would not have assumed I had stolen a five-dollar pizza and eaten it in the store. I've been in this location a number of times, and the cashiers are always on the phone while dealing with customers--this is without exception in my experience. It's not just that they are on the phone, it's that they barely acknowledge customers' existence.
