So I order pickup at 4:25 on grubhub, get order confirmation email at 5:18 Saying it’ll be ready by 5:45-5:55, get there around 5:55 (earliest pickup available time), the FOH person says it’s not there. I ask what he means bc it was confirmed and apparently the grubhub thing was “closed”? I say how is that possible when it was confirmed and even gave me eta at 5:18, doesn’t that mean the restaurant saw the order and confirmed and provided eta?
Well, this FOH guy with glasses and tattoos was overwhelming rude and just demanded I ask grubhub for a refund all the while acting not sorry at all. Ok but I literally see doordash food to my right but no grubhub….. odd. At this point I was so turned off by this FOH worker I just asked for a refund on GH and left. Then I saw the restaurant “live” on grubhub in the parking lot as I checked my phone. Huh, go figure. Did they “close” temporarily and act like they were closed the entire time bc they messed up the order? The fact that restaurant went live right after I left is very sus and honestly quite odd, possibly lied straight to my face.
Either way, the entire experience was incredibly off putting so please train your staff properly to be the accommodating to the slightest degree. Worst interaction I’ve had all year at a restaurant. In fact, I’ve never had this sort of a situation before ordering pickup via app. If the staff was even borderline nice, I may have actually ordered on the spot and waited but this guy honestly...
Read moreI wish there were more Sichuan restaurants like this in town. It has authentic flavors - I'm addicted to their rattan pepper chicken, toothpick lamb, spicy boiled beef, and many other dishes. I do wish they have "Yuxiang Rousi", and a few other traditional Sichuan dishes as well. There are areas they can improve: 1. Cleanliness. The food material is usually fresh, but the quality can dip on a Monday to Wednesday - I'd give it a 8/10. The restaurant's cleanliness rates about 6/10, with a horrific restroom and sticky chairs that detract from the atmosphere. 2. Service. Most the time, you must to pay and order from a QR code, the service is limited, possibly due to low tip expectations. Given that the average cost per person is between $30 and $50, they really need to improve their service. I'd rate the service 7/10. However, they do excel in presenting traditional street food and farm-style serving plates and bowls, earning a 9/10 for the presentation. Plus the unparalleled authentic Chinese flavors in Orange County leaves little competition, as most of the other local Chinese restaurants would only score lower in cleanliness, service and flavor. Meizhou Dongpo has better atmosphere and service, however, if you order Kung Pao chicken from them once, you'd find it worse than...
Read moreFood- I like the couples sliced beef in chili oil and pork belly in chili oil. Fish in chili oil was just so so, I have had better at other places.
Service- This part eats up the rating. The servers were just ok.. I had to scan the QR code to view the menu, that's perfectly fine, but had to order online when the server was right in front of me. When we wanted to add rice or something else, same thing. Had to go through that same process of going online, searching for bowl of rice, etc. all over again. What the. Why can't they just order an extra bowl of rice for me? They kept saying "order online, it's easier". I don't see how that's easier for customers, easier for them.
They put the food on the table and never checked to see if we needed anything. Of course, that's because I had to order online if I needed anything! I am usually a generous tipper but I don't believe in paying 20-30% of my dinner as a tip when I had to do almost everything myself other than the server putting food on the table and never coming back. If they think it's easier to do everything ourselves, I want to pick up my own food so that there's no tip. If you want to tip, please take order, bring food, check back to see if customers need...
