I went to Son of Monsterpalooza where I got a really cool Misfits tiki glass. The artist informs me my long lost favorite tiki bar from my days living in Irvine was having a special event with a custom bloody Misfits tiki glass. Say no more! I rally the squad and drive two agonizing hours from Los Angeles. I'm in line, waiting for my place in queue when we are told there is an extra 50 minute wait for seating. Purchase of the whoppin' $140 tiki mug does not include a drink or a table to enjoy a whole tab of food and drinks. I ask to speak to the server who is nice and tries to defend the Stowaway. I counter with, "But you didn't prepare for the volume of horror fans that was going to come your way." The tiki was $80 at Monsterpalooza and jacked up to $140 for what I assumed was a split deal. I ask to speak to the owner who comes out with a huge smile that quickly fades. I informed him of the issue to which he gave me belligerent responses. I repeatedly said he didn't care about his customers. He refused to show any empathy. Well I'll tell you what, MR. STOWAWAY! Disney's Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar LOVES my money and gladly takes it without much of a fuss! Your condescending YOU'RE WELCOME at the end of the conversation elicited a deep laugh that carried me through writing the review you so so so deserve. ; ) Please remember that in your industry, you are supposed to aim for customer satisfaction. If the wait is such a hassle with many people perhaps you can reassess your poorly run business to see what you can do to make the people looking to give you buckets of cash a more positive experience. As well as parking is GOD AWFUL! What made you think that would fly when people want to bring groups of friends...
Read moreCame here on Friday at 7:30 pm wanted to have a drink before heading to dinner. This place is in a small shopping center I guess I didn't do my research properly because.... as we walked in there was no one in the front so we walked to the bar counter since we just wanted to grab a quick drink and just get our night started, the bar counter had some open seats but reserved signs, seconds later the hostess appeared and escorted us back to the front and let us know they are by reservation only. There were tables, bar counters and counter tables all open and around the establishment and the hostess stated we need a reservation and she was checking what was the soonest available even though they had plenty of seating 🤯 unless 40 people walk in right now this place isn't getting packed. The hostess insisted we needed a reservation and we arent allowed to get a drink and stand. so I felt confused and unwelcome as I've never been to an establishment in a shopping center specially a casual atmosphere tiki bar that you need a reservation. We explained to her we just want a quick drink and she added "we aren't a dive bar" well excuse me at a dive bar ill get better service than this so I'll go spend my money there. So fair warning the hostess left a sour impression and I will not be coming back to try this place. So if you go try it and you see a short hostess that looks like she's 12 tell her the girl at the dive bar sent you 😅 good luck friends and MAKE A RESERVATION!!! If you choose to...
Read moreWent and checked out Stowaway while down in the area for Ohana Fest. We were seated right away by a friendly staff member and was told where to find the menu and wifi (if we wanted it) information.
The decor inside was awesome and what you would expect to see in a tiki bar. From the bamboo, to the lighting, to the wall art. All was awesome and very well done. The music, with the exception of the Beach Boys, was great island music and the only style ofusic you would expect to hear in a tiki bar.
The wahine had the Flamingo which consisted of pear vodka, lime, grendanie and fizz. It was interesting and I'm sure that some people like it. I had the Stowaway Mai Tai consisting of dark rum, Hamilton demerera rum, lime juice, dry curacao and orgeat. I followed it up with the Hurricane Ash consisting of demerera rum, dark rum, argicole rum, Plantation O.F.T.D., falernum, passion fruit juice, pineapple juice and orange juice.
Both of my drinks were excellent! The Mai Tai was more on the sweeter side but refreshing and very well made. The Hurricane Ash was equally refreshing and quite boozy with 4 different rums which is always a plus in this tikiphiles book.
Due to its location in Tustin, it doesn't seem to attract the typical tiki crowd. Other than my wahine and I, we didn't see any other tikiphiles which for some can be a bit of a mood killer. Overall Stowaway is a great little tiki bar and a place to check out when down in Orange County. Many mahalos to...
