We were looking for a place to grab a soup & sandwich (BLT) on our way home from camping and found this place listing homemade soups! Our experience here was... interesting. If you've ever been in Ed Debevic's in Chicago, I thought we were walking into the small town version of that, but nope it was real life. We walked in to this small little diner that was not busy, 2 tables & 1 other person at diner, and awkwardly, no one said a word to us. We seated ourselves at the diner stools, looked through the menu, and shortly the young waitress (wish we got her name, because she was excellent) asked if we were ready to order. She was very kind & attentive, and made & delivered excellent food - BLT, homemade clamchowder soup, coleslaw, and a large piece of cheesecake! There was a lot of bickering & grumbling going on behind the counter between the other 2 waitresses (1 being the owner), maybe this is normal for the locals, but it was a bit off-putting for when you're just trying to chill and enjoy your lunch. Overall great food & our waitress...
Read moreTiny local small town cafe. This darling place is the Two Rivers ('Trivers') version of Lake Wobegon's Chatterbox Cafe. Can't help but catch up on local news & gossip. Counter w/ stools, 3-4 small booths, & a couple of small tables- if more than 3-4 in party, you may have a difficult time sitting together. Classic diner menu w/ daily specials & a basic kids menu (please be sure your kids are fairly well-behaved!). The small staff- including Connie most days- is outgoing & efficient. The food is delicious w/ ample portions. WARNING: If you prefer a quiet meal @ a table off by yourself, this isn't the place for you. It's way too friendly & intimate! Finally- interested in carrying on & sustaining the tradition of Connie's Diner? Connie is approaching retirement age & rumor has it the diner may be up for sale- contact her for...
Read moreConnie’s Dinner is one of those hidden gems that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk through the door. I stopped in on a Monday and had their special, the meatloaf, and it was absolutely delicious—comfort food done right. What makes this place stand out even more is the fact that it’s cash only. In today’s world, that feels refreshingly old-school, and it matches perfectly with the down-to-earth vibe of the restaurant. The prices are almost shockingly low given the quality of the food, making it an unbeatable value. The staff is super friendly, warm, and attentive, and service was quick without feeling rushed. It really feels like the kind of food “mom would make”—hearty, simple, and made with care. If you’re looking for a great place to grab a meal that feels authentic and welcoming, Connie’s...
