A neat place on the water with a lighthouse and some large boats. Unfortunately they were closed for the season, so we didn't get to see the museum. We walked around the outside to get some pictures and take in the atmosphere. Saw an otter or something run by, but couldn't get a decent shot of it. Would like to stop back some day to see what the inside is like, but it was still nice on the outside.

The museum was very interesting and fun. Our family stopped here while on vacation and we're pleasantly surprised. Seemed unassuming from the street but had many buildings and some very interesting artifacts (like a 100 year old catsup bottle from the Christmas Tree Ship wreck). Definitely worth a stop.

Interesting fishing and Great Lakes ship wreck museum. Last surviving wooden harbor light house. Many artifacts recovered from Lake Michigan ship wrecks. Extensive collection of ancient native american arrow heads on display.

For the low price of $5 you get a small guided tour before being allowed to wander on your own. The guided tour deals mostly with the Christmas tree boat wreck. I found this interesting because I got to meet at a conference earlier in the year one of the divers that cataloged this wreck. It was also interesting to hear the story about this ship. We also get to tour a home that was setup to represent what life would have been like during the time this area was first populated.

After this you are free to roam on your own. This includes the lighthouse, a boat, several historical buildings, and a large building with lots of artifacts.

Overall I really enjoyed the location and felt that you certainly get your...

A nice volunteer gentleman did a good & interesting introduction to start off the mainly self guided tour. There. Was a lot of fishing history to read about and see. You might wanna leave yourself more than one hour to take it all in. I. Like going up into the old lighthouse. The boat engines were neat to see, especially the reliable diesel. I forgot the name.I believe it was invented and built in the area. The last building had the most to read and take in. So leave enough time. If you have an extra large group , you might wanna call in so they can...
