I'm not sure how the food was but the staff was excellent! I ordered but never had a chance to get my food because while waiting in the drive thru I happened to notice a snake in my car! I immediately jumped out with my car abandoned in the way. Figured I'd should let the staff know why I'm not moving my car. They understood and even sent out the cooks and manager to help try and remove it! After over an hour I finally called the police for animal control. After the help of four officers, three Catfish King staffers and hours of trying, we got the snake out! Thankfully it was only a rat snake and it was released safely in the countryside.

They are short on employees and you could tell by how slow the drive thru was going, but the fish was amazing. The lady that seemed to be running everything was very kind, in spite of being over worked and under paid and rarely appreciated. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the shrimp was horrible and was not cleaned correctly and tasted very old. But, all things considered, the fish was amazing as was the chicken, and kindness was overflowing.

This place is absolutely wonderful. The employees are down to earth and friendly. The service is great and the prices are reasonable. And the food is fantastic! These people know how to cook and you just feel like your at a place that is down home cooking. Live the catfish and love the hush puppies. Definitely a place to go!

So I've been a Longview tx area Catfish king customer for 40 years. I just discovered the one in Tyler tx. Longview area no longer has one.

So here's the honest 3 star review.

Customer service / place your order counter people are not that good at explaining what you get with your meal.

In the old days it was a buffet which I don't personally miss because fried fish is always better right out of the hot grease. So if im ordering a fish plate off the menu (not a buffet) I would expect them to cook it when ordered it but this fish is obviously not cooked to order at all which is not how I want my fried fish meal served. I would rather wait for a freshly fried meal. But the portion of fish, fries, ect were good.

In the old days tomato relish was free with the meal as much as you wanted but with this restaurant that is not the case at all! You are going to pay for a small or any portion of tomato relish that you want or give up one of your sides Which I personally feel is a bit ridiculous in my opinion and petty.

So yes I will eat here again when I'm in tyler.

But the counter service is not great

The tomato relish hassle is annoying

The food not being cooked when ordered. Is a disappointment but it's still good just not great.

The building is pretty run down the mens restroom was out of order and appeared to have been like that for a while but...

I went to Cat Fish King and the lobby was closed. The last time I was there This year was in June because Tyler has a lot of restaurants and I try to go to a different restaurant every week. Like I said Cat Fish King lobby was closed and we went through the drive thru and had to make two separate orders for one order. After I paid $46 and something, we was told to drive around and park. So I drove around and park in a parking stall. After waiting for about 15 minutes this lady came out Howling at us, why are we in there parking lot. I said we were waiting on our order. The little lady scream again that we park in the wrong place. I said how did I know; all the lady said in the window was to go around and park. She then ask for my tickets very nasty and she snatched them out of my hands as if we was lying to her. There was no one else out in the parking lot but us waiting. She was nasty and rude to us. I will never go back there again for now on I will only go to Crispy Chick. The people there is very polite. Cat Fish King is just 8 minutes from my house but, I will drive two miles just to be treated with respect after I buy there food. Times are too hard in the food business to be disrespectful to...

I have not eaten here in years. I was a child the last time I remember having it. I ordered from the drive thru. The line was a bit slow moving, but makes sense for a catfish restaurant. I expected hot fish when my turn came and that is exactly what i received in return for my patience. So i didn't mind the wait at all. The lady at the drive thru was really nice and had a sweet attitude when taking my order. She didn't rush me at all. The catfish tasted the same, if not a tad bit salty from what I remember, but not in a bad way. The filets were fairly large. I ordered the 8 piece, not realizing they would be as big as they were. It's easily a shareable meal and that is what i ended up doing. The hushpuppies were different from the long cylinder shaped ones I remember. The new hushpuppies weren't great to me. The flavor was just not good and also tasted a bit salty, again not in a horrible way. The fries were just plain fries. Nothing fancy or overly seasoned. The cole slaw and other sides were great as well. The beans tasted the same as I remembered also. The overall value I received for the price I paid far exceeded my expectations and I would...
