My wife had an out-of-town work trip, and we wanted to grab a bite of breakfast before heading to the airport. So, we pulled off the interstate in Union, KY, to try out Boomtown Biscuits and Whiskey. Boom Town offers warm, rustic options serving elevated comfort staples such as biscuits plus whiskey cocktails.
My wife ordered the Fools Gold, another popular dish. This came with two biscuits, two eggs that were ordered scrambled, Sawmill Gravy, and bacon. The biscuits she received were dry; the gravy was very thin and overly sweet. The biscuits needed the gravy, but the sweetness of the gravy made it hard to eat. The eggs were scrambled well but over-seasoned and very salty. The bacon was crispy, offered a good chew, and was cut to a suitable thickness.
I ordered the Yukon sandwich which comes with fried chicken, sawmill gravy, smoked cheddar, bacon, an egg ordered over-easy and Yukon fries. Our waiter told us this was one of their most popular dishes. The Yukon fries were cut like wedges, had a nice crust on the outside, and were soft on the inside. The seasoning on the fries offered good flavor. However, it was heavy-handed, which overpowered the fries. The sausage gravy was thin with a peppery but sweet flavor that was too much for my taste. The gravy also had chewy pieces of sausage. The biscuit had a good crunch on the outside and was fluffy and soft on the inside. The bacon was both crunchy and chewy with good flavor. The chicken was overcooked and nearly burnt on the outside. I could taste some good heat and flavor in the breading towards the center of the piece of chicken, but with most of it being overcooked, it drowned that out. The egg was ordered over-easy; unfortunately, it came out over-hard.
Boom Town has a full bar and offers craft cocktails all day. They serve their entire menu all day. Their menu has sandwiches, plate entrees, and desserts. The waiter and hostess were amiable and helpful, and the ambiance was neat. The rustic old-time look and feel were welcoming. We tried two drinks that were not reviewed, and they were excellent. Read moreA date and I split the prospectors plate, add a small side of jam , black and blueberry. That got us each a biscuit, a solid amount of ham and bacon, and we also ordered a side of cheddar grits to go with. Despite the fact that I wanted to substitute the ham for additional bacon or sausage link, and they wouldn't do it, I was completely thrilled with the meal. The Black & Blue jam was a little sweeter than I normally like, but it went very well with the buttery, salty, and yet flaky biscuits. The ham I wanted to substitute out might have actually been my favorite part of the meal, with a Generously smoky cure put on the meat I was able to enjoy it despite a taste aversion to most cheap Ham, this was nothing like that. This was true genuine country ham, not a oversize chunk from the lunch meat counter. The bacon was crispy and good, though that's hard to mess up in my opinion. Cheddar grits had a serious amount of cheese in them, but with enough pepper I mixed them up and made a spicy balance for what I was going for. The sausage sawmill gravy on the biscuit hit one of my favorite comfort food highlights, fatty and indulgent and delicious! server was new, but she was very friendly and polite, she ran to check with the kitchen about substitutions and asked questions for me when I was being difficult, she brought us drinks, she was never pushy, and she was super friendly to the point of conversation that actually held up our ordering. Not holding that against her at all, it was a good sign. Felt very welcoming. The cool space, great food, and was affordable . Definitely...
Read moreI LOVE to dine out for the experience and tell folks about good food and customer service!!
10/31/2021 The food was mediocre and cold when it arrived at the table. Food was brought out separately.
We were greeted with smiles and seated immediately. (Reservations for seven with a 20% gratuity)
We had to research the menu on our own and pull up pictures from social media to see a better description of the food. The waitress appeared to be in a rush and wasn’t all that helpful. Communication appeared to be off with the wait staff and the kitchen. Three extra orange juices were brought out. Only one extra orange juice was requested. I was charged for the extra two orange juices. My sibling stated that the he really enjoyed the Gold Shoes and the gravies. Ooh and my party also enjoyed the Mimosas!
My mom & I had the Alamo- and requested for ALL SAUCES AND SALSA ON THE SIDE! Both of the orders came out with soggy chilaquiles:(……so again ask the waitress for just another order of PLAIN chilaquiles AND THE KITCHEN ADDS THE CORN SALSA AGAIN!! Third time- CAN I PLEASE GET PLAIN TORTILLA CHIPS!!!! I was charged for all three mistakes that the staff had done incorrectly! My sister didn’t finish her plate of whatever it is that she ordered. My niece and nephew only ate their biscuits! Both said that the biscuits were Amazing!
I always dine out every weekend for brunch and love supporting local establishments in the community.
But unfortunately, I will not be returning for any experience at this...
