Used to be able to come to this store to buy a half a tray of baklava for $25. Called in yesterday to ask how much it would be now, especially since inflation, and the guy said they don't sell that anymore in trays. I asked why, he said they never did. Explained that they did and he said they only sell by the piece for $3. I asked when they stopped, and he insisted they never did. I said I had gone there a couple years back and he said he would ask his brother and call me back. Did not call back. At 4:50PM, I called again, no answer and left a voicemail saying I could drop by today. Dropped in today, they have three people in the store working, so I asked what was happening with the baklava, and he said it got too expensive, then he said he didn't want to steal competition from the stores. On his sign, it clearly states wholesale and retail. We explained, if we have a party, we can't be buying baklava by the piece, we would need a tray or half a tray. He paused and said no they won't do it.
Their baklava is in fact good, but the service is horrible. There aren't too many shops that sell this by the tray for a good deal, so that leaves me stuck in general.
As for the other reviews on here, there's a major problem with the fact that Dora's does not date their product when sending it out to the pizza shops they send it out to. The pizza shops are in turn not rotating properly or tossing when the product could be potentially expired or monitoring upon receipt of the product, and their inability to do this is allowing the product to sit for extended periods of time to mold and do what food normally does. Dora's should be dating these products before sending it to the shops they sell to, and the pizza shops should be more aware of what they are selling. Best thing to do in these cases is call the pizza shop you purchased it from or report to the health authorities as these products...
Read moreI bought the banana pudding and the double chocolate cake, do NOT buy. youâre wasting your money on dessert that tastes not even the slightest of homemade. the banana pudding is jello banana flavored pudding with two dollops of whipped cream and 3 nilla cookies on top. nothing special! no layers, no bananas, no anything. and also had a very odd aftertaste, like acetone or some type of chemicals? the cake wasnât the worse but it also wasnât great, the cake was extremely moist but not in a good way. like someone ran the cake underneath water and let it absorb for a few seconds, the âfrostingâ tasted like chocolate syrup. and was surprisingly the only thing i like about the cake. the cake was also extremely spongy like moisture was trapped inside of it. complete mush! and just like the banana pudding had a strange aftertaste. so confused how you can mess up a chocolate cake but you call yourself a bakery, the cake tasted like nothing but sugar! two flavorless little cakes covered in sugar. never purchasing from here again! both desserts tasted old, and i wish i could give half a star just for the presentation because everything else lacked. not worth my money. and tell dora to take some...
Read moreFor some reason, Dora's Bakery supplies desserts to several neighborhood pizza/cheesesteak restaurants in Philly. After this last experience with Pete's Pizza 3, I vow to always ask where a restaurant gets their dessert before ordering takeout and I will skip the dessert if it's from Dora's! The mini carrot cake was oily and dense. The double chocolate cake had the opposite texture - too light and fluffy like a sponge cake; and the chocolate tasted artificial. Also, the bottom of the chocolate cake was damp as if some moisture had gotten trapped there. In the past, I have had similar experiences as other reviewers here with Dora's cakes that had mold, soggy cake bottoms, and/or a chemical or alcohol odor. I'll allow that any restaurant will produce an occasional bad batch, but ask yourself why there are so many more negative reviews vs positive ones. Also, three exclamation points in every sentence of a good review...
