As a Black woman, I’ve learned to notice the little things — and today at this Starbucks, those little things added up to a very disappointing experience. I came in and ordered nothing but a simple black coffee. No one greeted me. No smile. No “we’ll be right with you.” I had to initiate the interaction just to be acknowledged. Meanwhile, three white teenage girls came in right behind me, and they were immediately greeted with friendly energy, waves, and casual conversation. Not only that, but they received their orders — which were much more complex than mine — before I even got my basic cup of coffee.
The difference in treatment was blatant and honestly disheartening. I felt completely unseen and unacknowledged. Whether it was unconscious bias or not, the energy was clear: my presence didn’t seem to matter. Read moreSlowest Starbucks EVER!!! I waited about 20 minutes for a latte. I was sitting right in front of the baristas, but continued to wait. I wondered why so many locals were ordering plain coffee. It's because they actually got their orders quickly. The drive thru orders were slow too, but not as bad, maybe twice as long as any other Starbucks, but not the 20 minutes I was waiting. Add to the long wait, one of the baristas was just coming on shift. She apparently was having a bad day. The look on her face was one of clearly not wanting to be there. Then, she proceeded to slam everything around - cups we're flying, product was splashing around - it made more noise than the customer's chatter. Read moreI visited this location before but this was the first time when my order was done badly and I was overcharged due to coffee “not being available (it was a java chip Frappuccino)” other stores had it this week and charged me the normal price, but i did not say anything, and the service was rude. They gave me change in a bigger bill than i needed and when i asked if they could break it i was told no, they don't have cash to break.
