Very recently opened. Very cozy atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. Communication was a bit rough in English, but all of the recommendations were good.
The hot Bogrash was very good and highly recommended. Very hearty and flavor. Meat was nice and tender. Seasoned just right.
The Fruit Kompot (a slavic boiled fruit drink) was good as well not too strong or too sweet.
The Baked Pork Ribs came out very well, not too oily, very easy to eat. The sauce that accompanied it paired really well. Would have preferred a pairing besides French fries to go with it.
Pork Neck Steak also game out very tender and easy to eat. The accompanying grilled vegetables were great as well.
The "Hot Buns" were decent. Tried the "cheesy" kind with garlic, butter, feta cheese, parsley and cracklins. It was a good pairing to go with with the grilled eggplant in Adjika sauce (a sauce made with tomatoes, garlic and other sauces, not actually spicy despite the description on the menu). The eggplant dish is good on its own but feels like it would be better with some bread as an accompaniment.
They have many assorted cakes available for dessert, but they were not well explained. A nut and poppy chocolate, like a perekladanet (a sandwich cake). It was also very good and not overly sweet. Made inhouse. Other options are a chocolate cake and an apple cake. These options should get better attention on the menu in my opinion for how good they are.
Service was good and well paced. Even if you're unfamiliar with Ukrainian food, it's worth a try there's a lot of delicious items and if you don't know what you want. You can ask the wait staff for recommendations. Prices are a bit above average for the portions, but the quality of the food is well worth the money spent, in my opinion. Would definitely...
Read moreMy husband and I recently indulged in a delightful takeout lunch from the Golden Boar nestled in the Huntingdon Valley Market Place. The proprietors, Yuriy and Volodymyr, exuded warmth and charm, setting the tone for a wonderful dining experience. Not only were they incredibly welcoming, but the entire staff mirrored this friendliness, creating a pleasant atmosphere.
My culinary adventure led me to the borsch, a Ukrainian classic, and a creamy garlic hot bun with cream cheese. To say I was impressed would be an understatement - the flavors were simply outstanding. The borsch had the perfect balance of savory goodness, while the hot bun with cream cheese added a delightful touch of indulgence. It was a culinary journey that left me thoroughly satisfied and eager for more.
My husband opted for the "Punsky Derun" and was equally enthralled. The dish showcased the culinary prowess of the Golden Boar, leaving him with a lasting appreciation for Ukrainian cuisine.

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a Golden Boar restaurant that left my taste buds dancing with delight. From traditional borscht to delectable pierogies, every dish was a celebration of authentic Ukrainian flavors.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the borscht – a vibrant, hearty beet soup that perfectly balanced sweetness and acidity. Each spoonful felt like a warm embrace, making it a standout appetizer. The varenyky (pierogies) were another highlight, with a variety of fillings that showcased the chef's skill and dedication to traditional recipes.
For the main course, the holubtsi (stuffed cabbage rolls) were a true homage to Ukrainian home cooking. The tender cabbage leaves enveloped a savory blend of meat and rice, bathed in a rich tomato sauce that elevated the dish to new heights.
The ambiance of the restaurant transported me to the heart of Ukraine, with rustic decor and warm, welcoming staff adding to the overall experience. The menu offered a diverse selection, allowing me to explore the breadth of Ukrainian cuisine.
In summary, Golden Boar restaurant not only satisfied my appetite but also provided a cultural and culinary adventure. If you're in the mood for authentic Ukrainian cuisine served with a side of warmth and hospitality, this is a must-visit destination. I left with a full stomach and a newfound appreciation for the rich tapestry of...
