# The Cage - Huntingdon Valley, PA ★★★★☆ After countless culinary adventures throughout the Philadelphia region, I found myself at The Cage in Huntingdon Valley, nestled in what was clearly a former Bertucci's at 2190 E County Line Road. The space has been transformed with a modern yet warm aesthetic that strikes the perfect balance between upscale and approachable. We were seated in a semi-private area rather than the main dining space near the bar, which offered a more intimate experience for our family gathering. Their cocktail program deserves special recognition. The virgin Cherry Mojito was expertly crafted with balanced sweetness and acidity—a standout among mocktails that often fall into the overly sweet trap. For those seeking spirits, their Gold Cup Martini displays the bartender's finesse. The menu spans various cuisines with surprising cohesion. The Margherita Pizza features a nicely charred crust with fresh basil, though I detected a subtle choline note that might benefit from a touch more acid to balance. The Rigatoni a la Cream showcases perfectly al dente pasta enrobed in a silky sauce with tender morsels of what appeared to be slow-cooked protein. Their Tuna Tartar and Korean Tacos demonstrate The Cage's commitment to technique—the former with its pristine fish and the latter with complex, layered flavors justifying its $38 price point. The Huli Huli Chicken's marinade hints at Hawaiian inspiration, caramelized beautifully with just the right touch of char. Service under Thomas R was attentive without being intrusive. Note that they do apply a 3% credit card surcharge, which they transparently attribute to maintaining their quality standards. At $211 for five diners, The Cage delivers solid value considering the quality and creativity on display. While not quite destination dining, it's certainly worth a detour for those exploring the culinary landscape beyond Center City. Will return to explore their seasonal offerings.

If you want a place that stimulates all your 5 senses….. this is it. Sight: The decor, lighting, effects, and details is beyond aesthetically pleasing. Sound: for a Saturday night the background music was appropriate for a fun night out, yet not drowning as you can hear your table mates, and only muffles of your table neighbors. Aromas: The combination of the food smells and smoked drinks get you excited for your turn, and the best part is you DO NOT leave this establishment with your clothing or hair smelling like food!!!!! Textures: from the unique weighted menus, the greenery on the walls to the soft toilet tissue (yes this is important), the textures created a feeling of warmth and you can tell the owner/s have selected specific details for comfort. Taste: well, everything we had was great! Korean tacos, chicken pasta, Buffalo shrimp, salad, expresso cheesecake, Pandora’s box (two old fashions) and expresso martini. So many desirable choices on the menu, if you’re a foodie, additional visits will be necessary. Of all our food choices, the expresso martini was least favorite and not in a terrible way. The taste was more expresso forward and sharp. Missing a sweet smooth finish. I guess the flower detail on top that gave a hint of campfire marshmallow was unique, yet the sweet smooth finish of an expresso martini was missing. Again, not terrible, just different than usual places. I’m excited to visit for brunch. Hostess, waiter, runners, buss-boys, and rounding manager(?) provided great customer service. Attentive and engaging. Overall experience 10/10 on Saturday during prime traffic hours for late dinner.

So the Cage has been open 2 weeks and we’ve been there 3 times. Here’s what we experienced. If you don’t want to read the particulars, then I would say it’s a fantastic place for cocktails and food, reasonably priced., but if it’s cold outside, ask to be sat away from the door.

Drinks: they are known for fantastic cocktails, at least at the Warrington location, and this location doesn’t disappoint. Their cocktail list is solid, but they can also make anything you want. We did brunch the first weekend and had the Gate 4 old fashioned and their house Bloody Mary. We returned today and had some more old fashioneds, a couple paper planes, a Pandora’s box, a Cleats Up, and a mezcal drink created by the bartender (Jon?). All were fantastic and reasonably priced considering the quality.

Food: Brunch was delicious. Portions were very fair for the price. There were 6 of us and we all tried something different. We were sat in the bird cage table which was a very cool experience. It was a very mild day, so we weren’t impacted by the constant breeze coming into the space as customers came and went (More on that below). We returned for dinner the next night (me, wife, 2 kids). We ordered several items from the “all day” menu and again, all was delicious. I believe we had a salad, sweet chili wings, and some flat breads. We received the wrong salad, but my wife dealt with it. I wish the server had made a bit more of a fuss when we told her we rec’d the wrong salad, but she said the one we got was $3 cheaper so we got lucky. We would have preferred to pay for what we wanted, so I think that could have been handled differently. Regardless, another very good experience, except for our table location. This time we were 3-4 tables from the entrance and my wife and kids had to eat with their jackets on to stay warm.

Service: Everyone we have interacted with has been extremely friendly, engaged, and happy to be there. We’ve been asked how we’re enjoying our experience. We’ve been thanked on the way out. Managers are in suits. Bartenders guided us through the drink menu and asked us our preferences before suggesting unique customized drinks. All around, very professional. Again, only complaint was the server not acknowledging the salad mistake and playing it off like we got a deal.

Atmosphere: very cool, unique setting. Not a simple facelift from the old Bertuccis. It is currently decorated for Christmas so it will be interesting to see what decor changes they make as the seasons change. I would recommend walking the whole restaurant before leaving to check out the other table options, the bird swing, and the digital screen that is where the open kitchen area used to be. Very cool setting. However there is no vestibule to keep heat in/cold out. If you’re sat anywhere near the door on a cold day, you will feel a breeze. Staff said they’re looking into supplemental heat. But be aware, you will want to sit farther into the restaurant on a cold day.

I’d give this place a 4.5 out of 5. I read the other sub-par reviews and while I can’t comment on their experiences, I can say this place has only been open 2 weeks. For a perspective of my review, i spent about 10 years in the bar/restaurant business. I live in Warminster and my family goes out to eat probably more than we should. We have some very strong options in the Southampton/Warminster area, and I’m proud to be friends with the owners of those locations. The Cage has certainly made an effort to set themselves apart from our current options. We wish them well and we will...

If you're looking for a top-tier cocktail experience in the suburbs, The Cage Cocktail Bar in Huntingdon Valley is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a warm, intimate ambiance that strikes the perfect balance between upscale sophistication and relaxed comfort. The waterfall and digital art wall at the entrance set for the perfect vibe. The dim lighting, stylish decor, and thoughtfully curated music set the mood for an unforgettable night out.

Drinks: Next-Level Craft Cocktails The true star of the show here is the cocktail menu—a masterful blend of creativity and classic mixology. Every drink is handcrafted with precision, using high-quality spirits, fresh ingredients, and unique flavor pairings that you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re into bold, spirit-forward drinks or refreshing, fruit-infused concoctions, there’s something here for every palate.

Favorites include: 🍸 The Special One; Brazilian rum blend with a house-made cordial and mandarin puree; really hits the spot 🍸 The Gate 4 Smoked Old Fashioned – A beautifully balanced, smoky rendition of a classic, served with a mesmerizing tableside presentation. 🍹 The Lavender Bee’s Knees – Floral, refreshing, and perfectly sweet, with a honey-lavender infusion that elevates this gin-based delight. 🔥 The Cleats Up Margarita – Their riff on a spicy margarita; a perfect balance of heat and sweetness, featuring infused serano peppers, pineapple, and agave Each cocktail is artfully presented, making every sip an experience in itself. You can tell the bartenders take pride in their craft—friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to recommend something tailored to your taste. They also do classics like the espresso martini to perfection.

Food: Thoughtful Bites, Big Flavor They also offer a well-thought-out selection of plates that pair beautifully with the drinks. The truffle parmesan fries are a must-try—crispy, flavorful, and addictively good. Their brick oven pizzas are perfect for sharing. Their home-made pastas, sliders and flatbreads are also fantastic, providing just the right amount of indulgence to complement your cocktails.

Service: Impeccable & Attentive The service here is exceptional—attentive but never intrusive. The bartenders and servers genuinely care about the guest experience, taking the time to engage, make recommendations, and ensure that every drink and dish exceeds expectations. Whether you're a cocktail aficionado or just dipping your toes into craft drinks, they'll make you feel right at home.

Vibe: Trendy Yet Inviting One of the most fun things about The Cage is the atmosphere—it’s lively yet intimate, making it great for a date night, a night out with friends, or even a solo visit to enjoy an expertly crafted drink at the bar. It never feels overcrowded or too loud, striking that perfect balance between social and cozy.

Final Verdict: A Hidden Gem Worth the Visit If you haven’t been to The Cage Cocktail Bar, you’re seriously missing out. It’s elevating the suburban cocktail scene in a way that rivals the best bars in Philly. Whether you're a local or visiting the area, this is a spot that deserves to be on your must-visit list. The Cage is great for fun cocktails and atmosphere, delicious food, table service is great, our server Alisha was great, the lack of stars has nothing to do with any of that. But management needs to work on their booking system and customer service. The handful of times I've been here, everything is great up until your "slot" is nearing the end. Don't plan on overstaying your welcome or they'll let you know... I understand it's a popular spot and they're trying to shove in as many reservations as possible, but to do so at the expense of asking a group of 6 people to leave, who's at a $750+ bill after 2.5 hours is pretty crazy. Which is what happened to us the other day when out for a friend's birthday. I actually thought the manager (young guy in a suit jacket constantly lurking and staring until you wrap up) was being nice, coming over to touch the table and check in on us, but he was actually just there to let us know there were people waiting for our table. I'm sorry but kindly read the room, sir. We were not sipping water or just taking up space, we all had full drinks and had ordered appetizers and entrees, (which came out at the same time clearly in an attempt to move us along), we all got dessert, plenty of cocktails the entire time and shots...again spending a lot of money.

This new establishment is much larger and holds many more people, you can afford to not kick out a group when their "time is up," when they are spending so much money. I'm not saying you need to let people stay all night, but maybe if guests are actively drinking and ordering things, give them a little extra time. Oh and group size doesn't matter. I've been here with just a party of 2 and once that timer is almost up, the hostesses will start hovering, stalking your table, walking by and staring to see if you'll be done soon. It's really kind of crazy. If you have to sacrifice the comfort of your guests enjoying their time at a normal pace to pay your bills then maybe you should see where you can...
