Just got back from my first time at Mama Wong's, and I'm bitterly disappointed. From the photos and reviews online, I was excited to have a local restaurant that provided good Chinese food. Went I went, the staff was rather aloof, not really tending to the customers, as much as clipping green beans and gossiping. I was seated and my order was promptly taken, but then I was stuck in some take-out purgatory for the better part of an hour. I had just ordered a simple lunch special of the orange chicken, so I expected it to arrive at a rather quick pace, but the only offering they could provide was an underwhelming spring roll with a bowl of more sauce than spring roll. Luckily it greatly needed it. After this brief reprieve, I got to enjoy the rest of my time enjoying a book and seeing people who ordered after me be served sooner. I had 24 seconds left on my timer to leave, when my food arrived, after the staff realized they had forgotten it. The orange chicken is about as authentic as a calzone is, but by its very nature. So everyone has their own way of preparing it. Never have I had it so hastily put together that it is genuinely just an ambiguous flavor of chicken. The sauce had a few orange peels for the aesthetic, on top of my actual chicken, but this was not an orange sauce. It was a last ditch effort to scrape together forgetting about an order, caramelizing a bit of sugar, adding soy sauce, and decorating with some garnish. The chicken was just past the borderline of being undercooked, but I'd like to chalk this up to skill, rather than negligent preparation. The portion size was fine, I disappointed myself by eating the food, but it was more akin to eating candy, rather than orange chicken, and that's already a very sweet item. Then I was left waiting for the green beans to be clipped and gossip to be had, before I could get my check, but after a bit of waiting, I just went up to the register, and waited for them to remember that they had customers to deal with, as well. Even with less than stellar service, I like to leave something of a tip, but the only tip I can provide them is to try something besides a customer...
Read moreWorst customer service in the area. Ordered from Door Dash for delivery and noticed upon check out that part of our order had duplicated without our knowledge. The card had already gone through so we immediately called Mama Wongs to alert them that we did not need the extra orders and would be calling Door Dash next to correct the problem. Were told it was understood and that we needed to contact Door Dash. After this Mama Wongs refused to answer the phone for Door Dash or my husbands number (the # used to call originally). They were blatantly avoiding our calls. I then tried from my phone and they answered immediately. We were told there was nothing that they would do and that we would be charged for the full order (extra orders and all). We not only called them within a minute of placing the order (and before Door Dash to ensure they did not make food that would be wasted) but they had the opportunity the first time we called to tell us they would not help us to correct the issue, but had us call Door Dash anyway. Door Dash customer service said they had tried to call multiple times and were unable to get a response even once. This is not just awful customer service but also ripping customers off for no reason that made a simple mistake. It would have been very easy to correct. Honestly once we did receive all of the (extra) food it wasn’t great, half was cold and one container had sauce all over the outside of it. Would probably not have ordered from here again, but definitely won’t be trying it out a second time now. And we will be letting anyone we know to steer clear as well. There are much better options in this area,...
Read moreMy mother and I were very excited after reading a news review stating this was the best Chinese in Chester County! We even splurged and ordered the scallion ginger lobster which was $38.95! We also got the beef lo mein my favorite and pan fried dumplings. When I arrived me and another customer waiting outside due to thier covid set up for over ten minutes waving in the window wondering if there was anyone there. Finally we were serviced and I hurried home excited for some of the best reviewed Chinese food! Whoever is reviewing them did not have our meal! The almost $40 dollar half empty small container of ginger lobster was inedible! The lobster was like a sponge in the shell that could not be removed, vegetables were barely there and limp, and it was in a watery sauce. We threw it out! $40 bucks down the drain the amount of lobster was not worth $15 if you could eat it! Beef lo mein was below average dried noodles and I think I saw maybe 3 tiny pieces of beef on there. Dumplings were hard and difficult to swallow. I do not know if we caught them on a bad night, bad cook or what, but I was shocked and so disappointed with the horrible food which is ridiculously overpriced for the quality! I will not be giving them another try!
Superwok is gourmet compared to them and half the price! I'm sticking with tried and true!
I feel horrible for this vicious review and I only do this if my experience was that terrible. Only other time was for a doctor that literally could have killed me! Did I miss something it other than $80...
