Letter to Taco Maya
As I write this letter, I sit in Taco Maya’s farthest booth, tucked into the back left corner of the restaurant. Across from me is my best friend of 18 years. As I look around, I see couples sharing booths, a dozen high schoolers crammed into one table but one silent protector weaving between them all, ensuring every surface is clean and every guest’s needs are cared for. I see myself in those high schoolers and those young couples in love. Taco Maya has been the location of first dates, and anniversary dinners for me. It has been there for me after high school dances, and college camping trips. I love it here.
The food, a nuanced beauty: every vegetable fresh, every meat seared to perfection. To the left of the line chefs is something I have stared at in admiration throughout my childhood. A plastic trash bin that is overflowing with golden tortilla chips. Watching your order being fulfilled has a smooth efficiency that Henry Ford could only dream of. I hope no ill ever befalls this establishment. It has shaped me into the man I am...
Read moreI've been a loyal customer for 3 years. Just had my wife pick up my usual order of three hard shell tacos. The toppings are just cheese lettuce tomato and guacamole. I always thought it was great to get a nice meal for under 9 bucks but tonight she came home it was over $12 I didn't understand. I looked into it and they are now charging a dollar for any time you put any guacamole on a taco and the amount of guacamole that was on these tacos was a joke it wasn't even enough to have in each bite. I had to take my finger and try and spread it around usually they give generous portions not tonight and to get charge 3 God damn dollars was outrageous. I notice the tacos in general were not as full, very little amounts. I guess they go big charge big and you go home with not much. There should be a real warning label to let you know you're about to spend three to four dollars on a teaspoon of guacamole Jesus Christ avocado at Giant is only a dollar. It is not worth the money I can get more for my buck somewhere else. I ate tacos on the day before the move $8.35,...
Read moreWe've been eating here since they were originally open across the way where Freddy's is now. I've also tried a ton of Mexican food places in the area, mainly around West Chester and Frazer. Taco Maya arguably has the best burrito. My favorite is the cochinita pibil (pork) but I've had the chorizo and chicken as well and they were all excellent. Ingredients are fresh, bright flavors, and you actually feel good after eating this food since it's relatively healthy, compared to some of the other trash out there. This blows Chipotle out of the water. I've tried the tacos which are pretty much the same as the burritos with less ingredients, and a stuffed pepper once which was delicious as well. I only wish they had more options. Service is always friendly and very fast. Sometimes there's a line because it's clearly a popular place to eat, and for good reason. La Rancherita in West Chester is also very good for other stuff...
