We three shared brunch yesterday (9/4) for the first time at what for us is the new downtown Bistro on the Square (thanks to a gift card) when the temp was 109 degrees. It was bustling, busy, cool inside with a young energetic staff who seated us immediately serving iced water. Our server Mary took our drink orders right away. The spicy Bloody Mary was terrific and my habenero Margarita lush with lime slices was delicious. Compared to the original Bistro the drink menu is now quite expansive though the brunch menu is rather small still incuding some of our old favorites. There were three chefs delivering like pros whom we could observe in the fairly open kitchen; there were at least three other tireless staff assisting them during the late afternoon rush. Our orders came quickly given the number of patrons; water was frequently replenished by most genial servers without asking.
The eggs Benedict were outstanding; the chorizo-egg bowl was flavorful and filling; my lemon ricotta pancakes with the always great quality side of bacon was terrific! We also ordered the cheesy biscuits to share. The ambiance and vibe was so positive and impressive with the youthful culturally diverse staff working tirelessly as a team the entire time of our visit, checking often on patrons, sanitizing tables, polishing silverware and folding napkins for set-up, and the lady bartender constantly mixing cocktails and fulfilling drink orders at the sleek new small bar. Our most gracious friendly young Mary checked on us regularly and we couldn't resist sharing (even after all the great entrees) the Bistro signature rich butterscotch pudding spinkled with sea salt (such an imaginative accent). We were there until near the closing once the brunch rush had concluded and it was so cool to see the three chefs do a bear hug and have a congratulatory end of day high-five with a little "cheers" at the bar.
The prices are eminently reasonable for the quality of hometown cuisine; we found the service and staff most commendable. Our table was cleared as entrees were happily consumed; we were not rushed and provided take-out containers for what we hadn't finished. We know we will return as the innovative design of this new venue is so pleasant, open, roomy, and welcoming. My only tiny demerit is the fact that there is but one unisex bathroom in an adjacent hallway with patrons lined up to wait, which was a tad incongruous, slightly unpleasant -- I skipped that experience. Perhaps in future maybe related upgraded accommodations? Overall, this was five-star afternoon dining in downtown Vacaville, a welcome respite from the heat enhanced by highly-motivated energetic courteous attentive servers, along with a fine bartender, an amazing team of chefs and their...
Read moreI never write reviews in google but this place is just phenomenal. Their location downtown is actually pretty great. We've sat outside once and now inside once. Both times the food has been absolutely delicious. I think they only serve local wines, and these have been excellent choices as well, with the exception of the Turkovich Albarino, which imo was not a great Albarino, but the GSM blend red we had and the Cab Franc were both excellent. The first time we were there about a month ago we had an arancini appetizer that was just incredible. I was so looking forward to having that again, but of course, a month later, the menu has changed, but I didn't miss the arancini a bit! Instead, on this sweltering hot day, they had prepared a cold watermelon, red pepper, and gazpacho soup that was just absolutely perfect for the day! Cool and refreshing, and most delicious. Next we had oysters on the half shell and an arugula and beets salad, over a bed of whipped ricotta salata. Again, both just perfect. It was a tough decision, but we ended up going with the burger for our entree, which we did not regret! I forget the name of the ranch they source their meat from but this was probably the second best burger I've ever eaten. Not quite as thick and blood rare as I would prefer (but close!), but certainly the best tasting burger I've ever had. This place is so good, and the menu is constantly changing, that we'll be back literally every time we drive...
Read moreYou definitely want to have a meal here! The artisans in this place All take care of their own specialties with great care, warmth, skill and passion. They work as team and work to please the customer. I went there to enjoy a family reunion. Great memories. There were six of us. Some from the north U.S., some from Boston and some from other parts of CA. We were there on a Wednesday evening for dinner. Our waitress was so attentive and accommodating. What a pleasure. The food they serve is locally sourced and you can tell by how fresh and delicious the ingredients are in each of the dishes. For dinner I had the Coconut Lime Bouillabaisse. It was Sooo good! My neighbor had the 'Braised Beef Short Rib Stroganoff' That too was a winner. This restaurant serves up a lot of unique dishes and they are very good. Their cocktails and deserts will also become your pallets new best friend. I am definitely looking forward to going back and trying more of their dishes. I recommend BackDoor Bistro and Wine Bar whole heartedly and I admire the staff that worked with us. To them I say a great big Thank...
