Years ago I tried it, because of all the buzz... Had a burrito. Taco Bell is better. Very bland, and they put it on a thick tortilla, like pita bread. Hardly any flavor, just not good.
I took my family there again, thinking maybe I tried it on an off day. This was a bad decision. I tried some of everyone's and I'll give you the rundown
Pork Burrito: Sauce was bland but had a bit of flavor. Beans were rubbish, Completely runny. Tortilla (more like a pita) is flavorless and doesn't contain the contents. Liquid beans and sauce gush out of it like crazy.
Beef Taco: Taco meat is bland and has an aftertaste like dog food smells. Dead on. Zero flavor, other than dog food. Taco shell was brittle and likewise flavorless.
Steak Taco Salad: Again, the prevalent dog food smell. Lettuce was watery, like it wasn't drained properly. Steak could have been a rougher grind of the meat in the taco.
Beef Tostada: Same as meat above. Bland and smells like dog food. Beans are runny . Tostada shell has a very strange odor/flavor. Like stale, but worse.
And the price! Outrageous for what you get.
I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Google mexican food and pick something else. There are a ton in the area I've had, all were much better. I still don't understand why people still recommend this place. My entire family...
Read moreI am absolutely shocked at the bad reviews for Vasquez Deli! I've been coming here since 1979 when my family first moved to Vacaville. I moved away 20 years ago to the east coast, and every time I come home fresh off the plane the first place I stop at is Vasquez Deli to get tamales and burritos and tacos. A couple reviews said they had runny refried beans. I've never experienced that from Vasquez. I think some of these people's taste buds must be dead. I'm a fantastic cook and I believe in being heavy-handed with seasonings. I think that they use just the right amount of seasoning for their food to sell to the public. Just to prove how much I love their food, anytime anyone comes to visit me from Vacaville or Fairfield, I have them go to Vasquez and order me a dozen tamales and fly them back to the east coast when they come to visit. When I go home to visit, which is usually once a year the first thing I do before I leave is order my dozen tamales to take back with me and a burrito to take on the plane. I graduated from Vanden High School 1981. And on Facebook it's amazing as a how many of my school mates still have great things to say about...
Read moreSomewhat puzzled by the reviews. Vasquez is neither good nor great. I'd rate the food overall mediocre. They tout everything as homemade which it may very well be however that doesn't seem to translate to freshness or being edible. The tortilla chips were over-fried to the point of being rock hard. The shells used for tacos were very close and have a similar crispness and flavor to prefab Ortega shells from the store. The enchilada sauce and cheese of the enchilada and beans didn't strike me as anything special or remarkable. They were edible but nothing above mediocre. It brings me no comfort to give a poor review to a local family owned business but I also don't want people to waste their money. I absolutely hope the best for the Vasquez deli but in my opinion their food taste, texture and flavor (soooo important!) needs to be upped dramatically. There are many other far better Mexican food...
