Almost didn't want to review them because then everyone will find out about this gem! Easily the best pho in Vancouver!!! The pho broth is so delightfully clean and soothing. Serving size is generous. Most consumers don't care about the garnishing vegetables (typically lime, basil, jalapenos, and bean sprouts) but as a Viet person I DO! They are the only pho place in Vancouver that serves sawleaf/culantro with the garnish veggies. I don't know about the rest of Viet society but THAT IS A GOOD SIGN I am about to get something authentic LOL You can taste all of the spices used in the broth. Star anise and fennel at the forefront.
I had to try the bun bo hue, a central Vietnamese beef noodle soup (AKA pho's dirty cousin). Almost TOO good... even though the dish didn't contain pork blood cubes I almost didn't even miss it. The broth has rich lemongrass tasting notes and the meat is soooooo tender! YUM.
One of the many things I can appreciate about Pho Brothers is they make their own hot chili oil. I add that oil to everything I can get away with. It's not super spicy yet flavorful. At most pho places in Vancouver the chili oil is sweet... not a hint of spice. These guys even provide your soup dishes with a side of dipping sauce (Tangy, zesty, umami, and sweet). Great for dipping meats. So, you don't have to mix your hoisin and sriracha on the side. Or you can HAVE IT ALL if you want. I'm so glad these guys are here. I cannot wait to try everything else on the menu.
Please don't tell your rude friends and mothers who don't know how to tip, dismisses the server when they check up on you and then complain the service sucks, orders with the server when they just got sat without realizing other people were sat ahead of them or all the tables just left and need to be cleaned, etc. about this lovely spot. You know...
Read moreBeing a Vietnamese person who grew up around the bay area in California - I am very very picky about where I go to get my Pho. I've heard really good reviews about Pho Brothers and have ordered them twice but this is my first time ordering Pho from them. This review is a reflection solely on the quality of the food since I did a delivery order. I haven't visited the establishment yet to dine in so I cannot speak on the customer service.
Ordered pho dac biet for myself and pho steak for my friend. And the com tam dac biet for my boyfriend along with springrolls for appetizer.
Springrolls - I am not a fan of springrolls in general (personal preference) but my boyfriend and my friend got one roll each and they enjoyed it coupled with the peanut sauce. It's a pretty big spring roll.
Rice Dish - My boyfriend and I felt it was just okay. Less amount of the charboiled pork compared to other vietnamese restaurants within the area and the taste was just okay.
Pho - I'm a bit disappointed in the broth seeing as the reviews talked highly about it. The broth was a bit bland for my taste and I found myself trying to add enough seasoning & siracha to try to add some flavor. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. But it was enough to get my pho fix for the night.
Overall just an average take out experience. But I would give this place another chance through a dine in experience instead. But I don't think I would get...
Read moreWow. I couldn’t be happier that this spot opened so close to home. We’re big fans of Pho and can be fairly picky (aka snobby) about the broth. This place absolutely did not disappoint and was one of the first times in a long time that left us impressed and surprised. Their broth is flavorful and complex without being too salty or oily. You could eat it as is and not need to add anything, which is awesome considering so many local spots have to be doctored up to even have flavor. The fresh herbs add a refreshing quality and they included a few we’d never used before. The garlic chili paste on the table is surprisingly strong and brings a roasted smokiness (its lovely but use with caution or it will overpower the lovely balanced nuance of the broth). Their house sauce that’s delivered with the herbs/limes/sprouts is lovely and it’s fresh ginger balances the garlic if you are like me and accidentally did too much. ;) We cannot wait to go back and try out some of the other dishes.
Staff was attentive, friendly and handled a full restaurant with relative ease. We felt very taken care of even when they got slammed all at once.
Our only wish was that the fresh spring rolls had mint or basil to give them a pop of freshness and a little more lettuce or beans sprouts to add that crunchy crisp. But they were still tasty and the pho is too good for it to take away from...
