My wife and I decided to try out Sunny’s diner as a brekky and hangover cure after seeing ezra bell at Mississippi Studios the night before. Our service started out good, our server was very friendly and quick to top off my coffee. My partner ordered the Sunny’s biscuits and gravy with a side of cinnamon toast, while I ordered the country fried steak and eggs with a biscuit. And boy i tell ya, i got a double helping of hashbrowns and gravy. too much even. The biscuit and cinnamon bread were quite the disappointment, dry, hard, stale, lacking flavor and cinnamon. My lady tried my country fried steak and eggs and immediately yelped in pain as her tummy hurt, while my iron gut powered through it with ease. I have to say presentation of the meal could use some work. The gray vee was grey on both dishes, but tasted alright. The dish holding the creamer was quite sticky and the two cups of half and half I used I had to pry from the dish, but as a laborer for work I managed. My other half couldn’t finish the heaping plate of biscuits and gravy so I had to do my part in the relationship and finish it, leaving me with tummy pain and a trip to the quite clean restroom. Lots of older folks clogging up the place but i can’t complain as I am in my older years. Waitress that checked us out was quite rude and exclaimed that she didn’t have time for us. In the end, the water was good, the coffee was good, the OJ for my old lady was good, the hashbrowns were lacking, and the biscuits were dry, the service was good until i had to pay, the decor was interesting to lay the least. I do in fact do the dishes, and coffee does come first, but I haven’t slept on the kitchen floor since my college years in the fraternity. Maybe I will have to check out the hot yoga after my next visit to work off the large, underwhelming portions. Until...
Read moreTook my daughter here for a late Saturday brunch. We were the only group in the diner the entire time we were there. After seating us and getting us our drinks, our server was beckoned away by the manager, who proceeded to loudly berate her for several minutes in the middle of the dining area for filing a ticket wrong or something (even though he acknowledged at one point that she didn't yet know any better). We could hear every word and were both made to feel extremely uncomfortable. We thought about leaving then and there. I wish we had.
The server left and the manager took our food order. He was nice at the table for the most part, but awkward to be around following his outburst. Eventually out came the food - my daughter's strawberry pancakes (buried under 5 towers of whipped cream) and easily the worst biscuits & gravy I have ever had. The biscuits were probably good but it was hard to tell through that disgusting gravy. It tasted like cat food, dishwater and artificial sweetener. I've never tasted anything like it and I don't want to know what is really in there. I had ordered eggs over medium, but it didn't look like the cook had made an attempt to flip them and they were quite runny. My side order of sausage patties was overcooked on one side, undercooked on the other and swimming in grease.
We took a few bites and agreed to bail. I didn't want to argue with the manager, who had continued to grumble about this and that (especially the long-departed server) so we just paid and left. Incidentally, this same meal would have cost me about $15 less at Stardust right down the street and I bet it would have been better in every way. We will not be back. Just a mess of an experience. So uncomfortable...
Read moreQuality of food and customer service are a key factor in our family's dinning experience. Sunny's diner was underwhelming for our first visit. We met old friends here who we hadn't seen in quite sometime. Additionally, one person in our party of 8 was running a little late - it was obvious to us that our waitress was a little impatient with us (they were not busy) and her responses to our questions seemed to annoy her or something. She wasn't rude per say, but she wasn't very helpful or welcoming. The food was okay but somewhat disappointing. A great example is my husband ordered the fresh strawberry pancakes (which cost more than just the strawberry pancakes) and when his food was delivered, it was obviously not fresh strawberries. He mentioned it to our server who insisted that they were and were not the frozen then thawed ones.... okay fine - they may not have been frozen at one point but they certainly were not fresh. My daughter left with a stomach ache and my son and daughter-in-law also didn't feel great after (opting to not take any of their leftovers home). The restaurant is cutely decorated and has a Cafe kind of feel. There was no wait and we were seated immediately after arriving on a Saturday at 9am. Despite feeling like we were annoying or inconveniencing the waitress, it took quite a while to get the check. Overall, I don't think we will visit again in the...
