JR Whopper Effect Review....This is what they advertise, this is what you get.
I am a former employee and long time patron of the former Florida Cold Cuts. I worked there as a kid and had been getting my sandwiches there for the last 34 years. You used to be able to get a great sandwich (filled with meat) for a decent price. Not any more. Their prices are 15% to 20% higher than other sub shops in the area and not the same quality (IMO).
I had visited Florida Cold Cuts twice in the last couple months. The 1st time (late sept/early oct), I got a CB special with swiss cheese. The cost was $15. For that type of money, I expect a decent sandwich with some meat on it. Not this one. I really wish i took a picture of it. If there was 3/4 of an inch of Corn Beef on it I was lucky. I called to let them know the sandwich was a little light on meat. I guess the owner/manager called me back awhile later to talk but I missed the call and and never followed up.
The second time (12/7/24), I decided to go back and try the new saturday special sandwich called the "Stella"; chicken sub with prosciutto, and whipped olive oil ricotta. The picture they posted on Facebook looked incredible. I ordered mine and paid $18 when it was ready. I decided to eat there at one of the outside tables. The sandwich (see attached pics) did not look as good as the one they posted the pic of. It was very light on meat if u ask me (maybe 6 ounces of chicken and 2 - 3 strips of Prosciutto. For that kind of money, give me a little something. The sandwich tasted very good, but the lack of product on it did make up for it (IMO). I went back in to tell the manager/owner the sandwich was a little on the light side. She tells "there was plenty of meat on that"
Value for money 2.5/10 Sandwich taste 7/10 Appearance 4/10
If you are hungry, dont go there until they step up their game and give you a sandwich worthy of the Florida Cold Cuts name.
Reply to owners comment:
Thank you for replying. I got over not being able to eat inside real fast. The outside table was just fine. I dont agree with rules but its your place and liquor license at risk. No problem. My biggest gripe is the lack of substance in your products. I understand costs go up. Believe me. If you do have to charge an extra dollar or so, so be it. I am not going to complain unless your prices are totally out of line . Just give me a sandwich that makes me want to come back. Twice now that has happened. The product tastes good, but value for money was abysmal if you ask me. I find a place, I am as loyal as customer as you can. I will say it again, make me want to come back every time! That's not what your saying to me when giving me sandwiches that...
Read moreOverpriced and so incredibly slow. Wanted to get some sandwiches to go before taking off for home around 2pm. It took over 30 minutes to make 3 sandwiches. When we asked they said the “grilled cheese takes a long time”. I’m sure it does, especially when you forget to start making it. Just a total waste of time. We should have just gone to Wawa, since they taste just about as good as them anyways.
Edit to clarify after the business replied: Thanks for responding so quickly after my review, which makes me wonder if you’re so busy why do you have time to reply to reviews within the hour they’re posted? Regardless, I totally understand a business might be busy during a holiday, but nobody said anything about there being a long wait when the order was placed, and there wasn’t a line of people waiting for their orders, so you just expect people to read your mind that the order would take longer than is reasonable? And when the we asked about the wait, nobody said anything about being busy, just that “grilled cheese takes a long time.” And finally, it’s clearly just lip service when you offer for refund to someone after inviting them to the owner in person, after they’ve already left (even when they said something in person while there) and clearly won’t be back for a while (or ever for us, now knowing how you operate). Also, we ordered the turkey clubs; the meat was good but was overly dry and bready, and the bread wasn’t anything special which is what makes a...
Read moreRead moreThis review is ONLY about their beer prices, nothing else. I went to the counter with 3ea X 24oz cans of Genesee Cream Ale. EACH can was $6.40, so the price was $19.20 (a six-pack for almost $20-?!?) I said, "You must have made a mistake, these can't be $6 EACH!!" I honestly thought price for all three was $6.40, which falls right in line with what other package goods joints sell this type of beer for. Heineken, for example, sells for $3.25/24 oz. can in most places, less in larger stores. So, an equal-sized Heineken is HALF as expensive as the price they tried to charge for a Genesee. I talked to someone, possibly a co-owner, who said she'd, "talk to her husband about it." Well, when she talks to him, I hope they can agree that the beer is egregiously over-priced, even for a tourist-trap...
