Hill Street Cafe — Restaurant in Ventura

This use to be my #1 breakfast place and love bring my family when they visited from far. Have always been recommend this place to anyone I would meet. Was really excited it reopened and excited to see what’s new. But sadly the service was extremely horrible and not only from our waitress Esmeralda but another waiter. We never got checked on or asked if we needed anything we would have to try to call her to try to get a drink. When we finally got her attention to order she seemed bother and was rude. After we got our drink I didn’t even get a chance to ask her for a straw. Another waiter passed by and we ask for a straw since he had some in his pocket. He brush me off and said to wait. We waited but nothing. He made sure when he pass by he would avoid us. The old service from the pervious owner ship of Hill Crest Cafe was never like that. Everyone their before was extremely nice and welcoming and every waiter and waitress was always happy to help and gave exceptional service weather it was their table or not. We wanted to try a new place in Ventura and found this cafe, the menu had a variety of breakfast and lunch items, also a brunch with. Mimosas. We were sat at 12:10 pm and waited over 45 mins for a server, the gentleman that gave us drinks visited the table at least 6 times. Our Server Antonio passed us and another lady next to is as well, not a word. We waited.... we asked and finally he came over. The group of 6 behind us, were loud and drunk on the mimosas, he made no apology and took our order, we waited again our food arrived at 1:30, after we saw it sitting in the food window, my husbands food was cold. We asked to send it back and please get it hot or we would just go somewhere else. Again no apology, no attempt to make it right. Just took food and brought it back and ran from the table. Management at this cafe should have servers and Bus staff work together, also train your staff on customer service, the table with those six drink people were so loud, and they were there for more than 2 hours, with constant refills??? Hill street hill street where do I begin. I want to give this place more stars but it just doesn't seem to deserve it. I've long heard the hype of this place and have come to the realization that it was always from the alcoholics I know who only come for bottomless mimosas on the weekend. Talk about a trip down to the 70s when the building was built. The old musty linens that hang as partition blockers from booth to booth was just that must with a light yellow discoloring, I'm pretty sure they should have been white. The food was ok! I got a lemon chicken sandwich with avocado and curly fries and the wife got the Cilantro Chicken Salad. The best let of the meal was the salad dressing which was delicious everything else was ok. The salad was chopped so fine it was easier to eat with a spoon since you couldn't get much to stay on the fork. I won't write this place off and will give it another try, maybe the breakfast will match the atmosphere and feel like I'm at grandmas house...
