EDIT: This edit is to replace my review from 3 years ago at my disappointment with the old GW not existing when Google said that it was still there.
The new GW Ventura has been open for a bit now, and it is about as good a GW as you can find in this day and age (in effect, saying that as good as it can be, it's still a GW, and not a 'gaming store'). Under the new business model of GW we've had 2 different managers here (Mike, and currently Jason), and each has brought their own unique brand of management to the hobby. The staff is enthusiastic, the products well stocked (again, all GW, nothing else), and players are often there gaming or modeling.
So, again, for a GW store, its great, but if you're a tabletop wargamer, you'll have to look further afield for the bulk of your gaming needs as, has been the case for the better part of a decade now: GW...
Read moreFor a store that centers around selling miniatures and boardgames you'd imagine it would be a fun and carefree place to let your imagination run wild. Well, at least for us it used to be that way for as long as we can remember. We used to love spending easily over a hundred dollars on paints and a few box sets, spending the day playing a match on their tables. Their previous manager was great! But with this new management, im taking my business somewhere else. After spending a lot of money on sets there, the manager was rude and almost happy to chase us out of the store after we tried to have a friendly match because a few of our models weren't up to his standard of play. That right there was the most unprofessional thing someone, especially a manager of a tabletop game store could do. Im taking my money, time, and buisness...
Read moreRyan, the owner, has been incredibly helpful as I've started on my painting journey. Every time I come in he stops what he's doing to greet me and will take as much time as I want to show me different approaches, tips etc for painting. I can feel his passion for the hobby and for helping people. I feel very lucky to have this store nearby!
Edit: To update/comment on the other review here, the store absolutely does not require a mask. Every time I've gone in, none of the customers are wearing one. Ryan often does, but I experience it as him attempting to be respectful to his customers. I've never seen him comment one way or another on it, which is how it should be (in my opinion). It makes me a little upset to see someone saying this local store should be shut down simply because they have a health advisory...
