Victoria Pub & Grill — Restaurant in Ventura

This place was a gem. Stopped by here every visit from San Diego. I never raved about their fish n’ chips but they met the standard.

Important to note first, service is typically always outstanding and I admire (most of) their staff. It’s been a while since encountering anyone here that is less than awesome.

As for the fare, I’m not sure if they stopped paying the cook, hired a new cook or just switched to frozen (pre-battered) planks but this is not even close to standard.

Hopefully you are not like me in judging a place that has “pub” in the title merely on their fish and chips alone but if you are like me, take my word for it.

The Guinness is not a proper pour but I also won’t low-star a pub for this. That’s not easy for all to achieve. Plus, more people will visit for food over a proper Guinness.

Back to what matters, the fish and chips. The batter was able to “twist” and should not be pliable [AT ALL]. The fish itself slips right out (see center of image).

I give credit to the waitress who brought a separate piece of fish asking to see if it was any better, and although the color was technically a SMIDGE better, the experience was the same.

Forget cost. The cost is fair but I’d pay more, and do, for better F&C’s. I’d prefer Fish n’ Chips from Carls Jr (partially joking).

I've been looking forward to checking out this place for YEARS! I love how it's tucked away and once you walk inside, there is so much charm in this adorable little spot. I can feel the history in this place. It's a great one. I really appreciate the authenticity here...

I was greeted by Liz - who is an INCREDIBLE server. Her personability is off the hook and I can tell that she truly cares about creating ease with ordering. I have a feeling that she really helps others improve the quality of their day. She definitely made a difference in mine!

Food is super affordable, staff is beyond friendly - and... if you see Liz, please smile and treat her well.

And... if you are the owners or managers and you are reading this review... please take super good care of Liz. She is an incredible employee that you don't want to see gone anytime soon. I'm telling you - she is great at what she does.

Chill atmosphere, i came specifically for the dart boards. They have a handful of pool tables upstairs as well. We Threw a couple games of darts. ( i won ) 😁 the drinks were Reasonably priced. They offer full dinner menu or bar foods. The place was packed on a friday night so it was a little hot inside that was really the only spolier of the night. And the bartender looked past me a couple of time's. So i was standing waiting to get my drinks long than i thought needed . But overall great place, awesome for a date night or lively active dinner...
