Since leaving the bay area I have been in search of that place with authentic $1.50 tacos and this is it! Just two small corn tortillas, carne asada, mixed with onions, cilantro, hot sauce and a lime! Get four of them and throw in a beer and you are out of there for less then $10. The food is authentic, the chips are good, and the salsa is hot. Their tortas are amazing, and their enchiladas are great too. The staff are friendly and helpful, but it is a family business so it struggles when it is busy. If you are a gringo you should ask for the English menu because the main menu is only in Spanish. The interior is very nice, but this is not a fancy restaurant by any means. Silverware was plastic last time. I believe this is a new business....so far so good! Keep it up! This is the most authentic place I have been in Ventura, proven by the number of Mexican-Americans there on any given night. Lunch specials...
Read moreThe Ventura Avenue is packed with great mexican food restaurants which means that any that last have to be good and Taqueria Cuernavaca has stood the test of time. We came here for years and ate their tacos and burritos but only recently discovered the real gem on the menu - the Alambres.
Alambres are plates of taco filling that come with a stack of corn tortillas and let you assemble as many of the delicious bites as you want. Tear down a full plate by yourself or buy a few for the table to share - it's your choice but no matter what route you go, I'm sure you'll be satisfied with the delicious, unique takes on taco fillings. My favorite is the vegetarian which pairs up pineapple, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and some sort of spice from the gods that makes it just blow up and melt in your mouth all at the same time. Too good to pass up. Makes my mouth water just thinking...
Read moreOMG!!! I LOVE Mexican food and it’s Truly HARD to find GREAT Mexican food. This place is INCREDIBLE, DELICIOUS, and QUALITY Mexican food. No “chintzy” portions with the meat lacking and filled with rice and beans instead. I was SO HAPPY the meat portions were so plentiful!!!
Going to be honest- Praying they don’t get so big and start cheaping out the large portions with rice and bean fillers. If they opened and an actual sit down restaurant this is probably exactly what will happen. So keep it simple without the overhead and focus on continued QUALITY, SUPER YUMMY food! Their salsas are to die for and they (as of now aren’t charging for extra- I have stopped going to some local places because they are charging ridiculous amounts for a tablespoon of hot sauce 😡) BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER!!! 5...
