Trail Series, Part 12 What is known as the “Hike to the Cross” is located within Grant Park in Ventura, California.
It offers 360 degree views that provide you with an opportunity to visually drink up and absorb everything from the hills around Ventura to the stunning Pacific Ocean.
The “hike” itself requires very little physical effort, but meanders nicely amongst the expanding trails within the adjoining Ventura Botanical Gardens.
Grant Park offers sufficient parking (although you can expect some company for each glorious sunset).
Each visitor here seems to soak up the experience in an individualized manner, but no matter how you choose to enjoy this experience, we’d recommend that you take a moment to stand, sit, or kneel at the foot of the cross…and reflect.

Read moreI think it’s a shame that many parts of the park or no longer open the vehicle traffic some roads have remained closed since the fire other areas have been locked up and change that were once great areas to park and enjoy the views maybe have lunch or a picnic but ever since the creation of the botanical gardens which is a beautiful addition to the hillside they have slowly and systematically been limiting access which is unfortunate because of the beauty of the surrounding hilltop open space should be opened up more not less and it said that the same sad pathetic scapegoats of Supposedly “drug use “ and “illegal activities “with little on specifics it seems that they care not about having open recreational space...

You may want to look into your heart and breathe in the history there. As you look off to the islands, imagine the Chumash people would look pensively for the canoes to return with abalone, urchin, and fish for the villages below.
The harbors that have been cut for boats for many reasons. Fisherman, oil from dereks that were strewn out all over below. And merchants from around the world.
