Trail Series, Part 12 What is known as the “Hike to the Cross” is located within Grant Park in Ventura, California.

It offers 360 degree views that provide you with an opportunity to visually drink up and absorb everything from the hills around Ventura to the stunning Pacific Ocean.

The “hike” itself requires very little physical effort, but meanders nicely amongst the expanding trails within the adjoining Ventura Botanical Gardens.

Grant Park offers sufficient parking (although you can expect some company for each glorious sunset).

Each visitor here seems to soak up the experience in an individualized manner, but no matter how you choose to enjoy this experience, we’d recommend that you take a moment to stand, sit, or kneel at the foot of the cross…and reflect.

And that’s…Henry’s...

I think it’s a shame that many parts of the park or no longer open the vehicle traffic some roads have remained closed since the fire other areas have been locked up and change that were once great areas to park and enjoy the views maybe have lunch or a picnic but ever since the creation of the botanical gardens which is a beautiful addition to the hillside they have slowly and systematically been limiting access which is unfortunate because of the beauty of the surrounding hilltop open space should be opened up more not less and it said that the same sad pathetic scapegoats of Supposedly “drug use “ and “illegal activities “with little on specifics it seems that they care not about having open recreational space...

Blest to experience the cross here with an ocean view in front of it.

You may want to look into your heart and breathe in the history there. As you look off to the islands, imagine the Chumash people would look pensively for the canoes to return with abalone, urchin, and fish for the villages below.

The harbors that have been cut for boats for many reasons. Fisherman, oil from dereks that were strewn out all over below. And merchants from around the world.

If your mind is clear, and your heart open, the energy there will guide your eyes to see what was and is...

Such a beautiful view. Every time my new workers check in I tell them to go there and have a picnic. Absolutely astonishing how far you can see and all the awesome views you can experience looking in any direction. Mountains on one side, ocean and pier on the other, city as far as the eyes can see. If you don't go at least once during your time in the are, you're missing out.

I absolutely love this place. Best views of Ventura in all of Ventura! Perfect for a sunset photo shoot or afternoon picnic. There's even benches at the top to sit and enjoy the views or a picnic table on the grass to enjoy your lunch with a view. Especially right now in spring the flowers are beautiful and blooming.
