Big Ed's Soda Grill in Vermilion, OH — Restaurant in Vermilion

Unfortunately when you go to a doctor they ask you what your pain level is on a scale of 1 to 10 and if you're like me I always ask them why do we have to stop at 10? Certainly the amount I am being charged for a 5-minute office visit finds itself way into triple digits. Ha. With this fabulous Big Ed's soda parlor I am giving them scores of 100 out of 100 in three categories..

1. the ambiance. Astonishing. I am visiting from out of town and I had no idea upon entrance that I would be welcomed to a time gone by that beckons nostalgia with fond reminiscence. There are artifacts and shelves from this 150-year-old building intact as they were back in the 1800s. I pray our present educators instill a love of history for present and future students because if you do not know where you have come from then you do not know where you are going..
2. I have not seen a hamburger taste or look this good or entice me with such appeal since Lady Gaga wore meat to the Grammys a few years ago. The hand-patted perfected mushroom Swiss burger created by the cuisine -talented Celine had me pursuing my calendar to see what day I shall happily return. The mushroom caps were a fabulous appetizer prior to my entree sandwich served with fries. 3). The staff. I walked in a stranger but left as a friend and there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that their hospitality tugs at not only my heart but the heart of all patrons. I had the privilege of having an engaging conversation with one of the managers Noah, who shared with me the history of the establishment accompanied with his enthusiasm for regaling me with the myth of a parade for what can only be known as a Vermilion cultural custom event for honoring the town worm. (Folks........ it's a myth right)? Haha. The hour I was there began with a warm welcome from the perfect server Betty. She was absolutely delightful with a sincerity I have not been privileged to witness, hardly if ever, since the pandemic began and people decided that it just wasn't necessary to work and if it was necessary then do so begrudgingly. Betty and Celine and Noah have a work ethic which on display presents itself as pleasure rather than a tedious laborious experience while on the clock. I will be back. And then again. And then again. And then wonder if I will ever be able to get a seat because hopefully people are going to read this and partake of this Vermilion jewel with some of you possibly getting the peanut butter hamburger. That was not a typo! LOL. Thank you...

Hi, I made the trek with my brother to Vermillion from Columbus to come and eat at your establishment. I've never been to Vermillion before and it won't be the last. It such a quaint and beautiful small town. It reminds me of the essence of yesteryear small-town America. Same thing could be said of your establishment. I was immediately greeted with a cheery wave and smile from your hostess who by the way carried a chair over to assist me in stepping up through the front door (my joints aren't what they used to be). From there, we were pleased by every aspect of our visit. The food was terrific: great burgers and fries and onion rings freshly cooked. I had the Coney Burger. Such a unique idea that I've not seen done before. I would consider adding a sliced hot dog though on it as an option. I think it would be a hit. Unfortunately, we didn't choose to have one of your delectable sounding desserts. We were too full from our lunch. Next time, however, we will. Finally, I would like to make note of our hostess/server. I don't recall her name, but she told us she is the mother of one of the owners. Her face should be used in the Webster's Dictionary under the word hostess. She was so warm and friendly and took the time to ask us about our day as well as told us a little about Vermillion. She is a true asset to your establishment and I cannot see anyone leaving there who came in contact with her not having a better day for it. We will definitely be...

I've been here several different times over many years. The food is always tasty comwas tasty, and it's a fun atmosphere. Today we stopped after a local soccer match and a visit to the beach. It seems the entire staff was under 20 years old, and I think most of them were still in high school. They did a fabulous job of being young professionals, and working as a team. We sat at the counter and I heard each person ask multiple times if another team mate needed any help. Everything was cleaned very quickly when people finished, and they said hello to welcome each person who came in. The guy working the Burger grill was was on point, and my Burger was perfectly medium well. If you're a local, you probably already know this.
