Sunset Island — Restaurant in Vero Beach

I want to like this place so badly, but It just isn’t the best and seems like a miss every time. I love açaí bowls so much but these are just not good. The regular granola they use is just too dry, crumbly, and seem like ash. Not to mention they don’t give you a lot of açaí at all so it just doesn’t work together due to the ratio, but maybe it’s homemade? In that case please find a better recipe, alter this one, switch to store bought, or just put more açaí. Next is fruit, and I love mango so much but here they have it canned and it’s so bad. Obviously they have fresh fruit to pick from but I just would rather mango, and every time I come back I get reminded of the canned fruit they have and it just seems both lazy and cheap. There is fruit that’s fresh like the blueberries but beware that you getting a canned fruit is a possibility. Some things I like though is the place is nice and clean, the açaí is great tasting (in the sad portion you get), and that the receptionist girls seem lovely when your nice to them. But they don’t seem to have much going though. I mean no one likes work but then why is there canned fruit and bad granola with the extra time? Also just to note I wish that they tried to pack the açaí bowl more with fruit, especially because of the price. I like to get the larger oz size and it came in a to go pint container and because of the surface area there was not a lot of fruit compared to the rest. Not to mention maybe 2/3 of it was full with açaí with a lot of extra space so there was enough room for extra fruit. Very disappointing when it comes to this because why am I getting cheated out on fruit when I’m paying upwards of $20? Literally a fist full and I don’t have big hands. I tried to excuse it but all the times I’ve come it was like this and i feel so scammed by the end.

Very sorry for this essay of a review but I just like açaí bowls too much and tried to have things this place could do to make it better. Sadly, an açaí bowl shouldn’t be so disappointing that you reminisce about it for a full day though on multiple occasions. This place is garbage! We got smoothie bowls, which were good..but not nearly as good as ANY other place I’ve been, and I get smoothie bowls regularly. The service was out of this world AWFUL! We walked in, there was no other customers in the store and 3 workers. Not a single one of them acknowledged us, we stood there for probably 5 min when I started to wander around wondering why no one was even greeting us let alone taking our order, and they for sure saw us, they weren’t in the back of the store, one was up front cleaning the case. Thats when I noticed there was a kiosk on the side of the counter so I asked if I needed to order on that. The girl washing dishes looked at me like that was the most annoying question she’s heard all day and said yes. I attempted to order on the kiosk but wanted to take the coconut out of the bowl which you can’t do on the kiosk so I had to ask her again if I could customize a bowl. Throughly annoyed she got someone else to come help me which he told me I should order on the kiosk. I asked him if I could take the coconut out and he said yes…well the kiosk won’t let me..I tell him this so he decides that he guesses he can just take my order like any other food place, at the register. He takes our order, he wasn’t “rude” but he definitely wasn’t friendly and has ZERO customer service skills! We got our bowls and they were…good. Definitely not great, the fruit was cut into HUGE chunks that you needed to bite in half and the majority of the bowl was granola. Every other smoothie bowl I’ve ever had was a sprinkle of granola on top or a small section of granola..this was literally MOSTLY granola, hardly any of the pitaya base. These bowls are $14 and this one was NOT worth it. Would NOT go back! Today was my first time ever coming in and I said that as soon as I walked in and that I couldn’t read the menu because I lost my glasses I was asking too many questions apparently frustrated another worker not even taking my order she interjected and told me if I don’t know what I want I can just leave. So I did. I frequently buy acai bowls and travel out of town to do so. I noticed this place today while picking up my Togo order from hurricane wings. This would’ve been my regular spot had i been impressed. But instead the young lady earned sunset island 1 star for her unreasonable attitude and extreme lack of customer service towards a 1st time customer. Never asked for a discount but did mention the fact that over $17 is high for a bowl that only allows 2 fruit selections and 1 topping.
