I'm not a person who has tried sushi or Japanese foods, or in fact Asian foods before. This was my first try at those, and well I can't tell you if the food was the best or not since I have never tried this type before. It tasted nice.
But
This is not a place to go if you don't know about Asian foods. I repeat if you're starting out on Asian foods don't go here.
The menu was confusing, it's an all you can eat place. And what it's meant by "all you can eat" is order on what you're gonna eat. You might think this is a buffet but it's not. They give you a paper with no photos, just the names, and you're supposed to check what you want. And they have another menu, where you can choose plates?? I don't they gave me two things.
The miso soup was good though. But since I don't know Asian food, I decided to go with the California rolls, I didn't like them. But I don't think it's because they don't make good food, just the ingredients. Specifically the seaweed, and maybe there was some vinegar on the some if the fish. But since I didnt like it I ended up picking out a lot of things from the food and not even finishing it. I ate a little bit more than half, but still when they came to pick the place, I could see that they don't like the fact that I had left food on the plate. And then resorted to saying something in an Asian language which I'm assuming had to do with me because they mentioned "all you can eat" and sounded bothered. Again I don't know what they were saying, please don't take this to offense. I also didn't exactly know what the term "all you can eat" really meant. But I saw other people's plates, they have very great presentation. As you can see on the photos posted by other people. I'm sorry for writing an essay but I couldn't explain shorter.
Also there a couple of reviews of service, saying that is bad, and that's absolutely true. The waiters look at you weird and...
Read moreI am a frequent customer at East Gate and have been for years - both dining in and ordering for takeout/delivery. Usually, I am very satisfied; tonight, however, I had a significantly under par experience. Having gone for dinner with a girlfriend ordering the all-you-can-eat menu, food preparation took a fair amount of time (zero problem with this, as we were not in any rush). The issue was with customer service/treatment. Since we sat down after 7pm on a Thursday evening, my friend and I were not paying attention to the time, especially since it takes time for the sushi to be prepared and served. After eating and paying the bill (with a more than fair tip), I and my friend were chatting while our food digested, which has never before been an issue on a weeknight. HOWEVER, the greeter/seater--whose face I did not recognize despite my numerous past visits--proceeded to come over and ask my friend and me to leave because it had been a while since we had ordered something.
First, I find this to be an extremely rude practice. Second, we were sitting for a total of an hour and a half -- typical for an all-you-can-eat service. Third, it was nearing 9pm, and since the restaurant closes at 10pm, it is usually not a high-traffic time.
If the greeter had wanted the two-person table space (we were not hogging a large table or anything!), he could have simply asked if we wanted to order something more and walked away. Message would have been received in an appropriate fashion. The way he spoke to us, though, was extremely unprofessional and off-putting.
Though East Gate offers good food and fair prices -- and is located closer to where I live than other sushi restaurants -- I think in future I will choose to frequent other restaurants, especially Imperial 46, where I find the food also to be excellent and have never once felt rushed or treated rudely.
Extremely...
Read moreNEVER AGAIN. To start off,we get there and the waiter throws ONE menu at us when there were 2 adults, and gives us 2 white pieces of paper for the unlimited. It was our first time so bare with me....anyways, i was given the kitchen paper and my boyfriend received the sushi paper so we didnt know the unlimited options were only on those papers until AFTER we ordered. When it came time to order i told the waiter i was getting the unlimited and she saw me order from the menu. Once i realized only one roll i ordered wasnt on the unlimited options i asked her nicely if we can switch since she had only put the order in a minute before and she said they couldnt because it was started already (whatever ill just pay the additional roll ontop of unlimited sushi price which makes no sense but ok) ...SHE WALKED OVER TO THE OTHER WAITERS AND THEY ALL LOOKED OVER AT US AND STARYED LAUGHING. Ok. I let it go. Food comes,it was alright, sushi was great, they gave us an attitude about asking for napkins because we werent given any. Bill comes and guess what,THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE ROLLS INDIVIDUALLY EVEN THOUGH ONLY ONE WASNT ON THE UNLIMITED SUSHI LIST. We politely try to fix it,they gave us a HORRRIBLE time about it. And they charge A DOLLAR for each piece of sushi you want to take home. Your better off going...
