We stopped since we were in Versailles for dinner. We've been to the Pioneer restaurant before, but it's been a while since we don't get to Versailles much. And we usually enjoyed it. We must have gotten a server in training. When we got there, we were the only customers. We figured we were ahead of the supper crowd, or the restaurant was under new management and not as good as they used to be. We sat to the left of the buffet bar. The next couple that came in sat in the booth behind my husband. She waited on them. We then gave our order. We ordered lemonades along with our meal. I ordered catfish and cottage fries. I used to brag on their catfish, (not as good this time) and the cottage fries are too big for one bite. She didn't ask if my husband wanted white or brown gravy. We don't know if there was a choice. But he would have preferred brown gravy. The couple behind my husband ordered ice tea with their their meal. The waitress asked them twice if they wanted more tea and refilled it. Also the people that came in and sat at the round table at the end of the buffet bar got better service as well. She NEVER came to our table to see if we needed our drinks refilled or if everything was ok. I had to ask for a refill on my lemonade (which I shouldn't have had to do), she brought it to me and set it down close to the edge of the table and just kept walking and didn't even have the decency to say "hear you go". My husband was going to leave a $5 tip when he got back from the restroom and I told him she didn't earn it. I told him about the lemonade and the fact that I had to ask for it. Just because we're not regulars (can't afford to go out much when your on a fixed income) doesn't mean we shouldn't get the same service...
Read moreWhen you go to these small towns, there usually isn't much choice on where to eat. You either hit up a fast food joint or you cross your fingers and eat at one of these places.
This is straight up restaurant supply food, nothing surprising, or fancy, just filling, regular old comfort food. When we walked in, one of the four servers yelled at us to sit anywhere. So we did and we waited for a menu and water....and we waited, and waited and waited. Until finally I stopped one of the young girls and asked her for a menu.
The older lady came over, dropped off two menus and said " Oh, I didn't know it was my turn to take care of customers." HA!! Seriously girl? There were three tables of customers in there when we walked in and four servers...and we had to call for a menu?
They have an all you can eat breakfast bar which looked decent but the biscuits were pure Sysco/restaurant supply all the way.Big glasses of ice cold sweet tea which was the saving grace. There is a very nice meeting room in the back of the restaurant that looks like it's the center of the community.
One of the main reasons they lost a star was the deathly quiet of the restaurant. I appreciate a mellow place to eat as much as the next person, but when everyone is talking in a hushed tone and not even a radio is playing somewhere, it's almost painful. Btw, the restroom...
Read moreAll around a bad experience The fried chicken I was served seemed to be a few days old at the very least I took a wrong turn to go to the bathroom and ended up in the kitchen somehow there was a blood dripping on the clean dishes that I could see as they were cutting pork tenderloin they were using the meat cutting board for vegetables The entire kitchen was filthy more filthy than a hoarder kitchen I am surprised that they have been open as long as they have I will be calling the health inspector not the county one either I will be calling the state health inspector because if they have been open this long without any problems and that is the state of their restaurant then they obviously know the county inspector and he’s been very very lenient on them The service was horrible rude waitresses in the fat man that was the manager seemed to be doing absolutely nothing but telling others what needed to be done and standing there huffing and puffing safe to say my cousin was correct in telling me not to eat at this place but I was in a hurry and everywhere else was very busy I should’ve took his word for it when he said that he got food poisoning from here I thought it happened to be a coincidence or something because they have good reviews online but now I see that it is entirely the truth that yes this restaurant gave him...
