Nothing wrong with the taste of the food. It's good, but the one in Beaumont has larger portions. We got the Mardi Gras grilled shrimp poboy. On the menu it says it comes with fries and all the poboys come with tartar sauce, lettuce, and tomato. She asked us how we wanted our poboy. I simply replied how it comes. It came out with just bread and shrimp. When I asked where the toppings were, she said that I asked for it how it came. Um, it says on the menu that it comes with sauce, lettuce, and tomato. Not really sure why that was confusing for them, but they fixed it right away. It tasted good, but when we got the same meal in Beaumont there was twice as many shrimp and it was full of lettuce and tomato, not just a sprig. We also got a boudin ball. $3 for 1 small boudin ball is ridiculous. My hubby asked her about how big it was. What she demonstrated with her hands was more than twice the size it actually was. Again, tasted good, but so not worth more than a buck. I will say I like that they have a whole menu that the Beaumont location doesn't have. However, if the portions aren't equal to that of the Beaumont location, then definitely not really worth the extra drive. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. I do think that the lemon bowl needs tongs or toothpicks or something to get them out of the bowl. The only option was to use your hands or get a napkin to pick them out of the bowl. Not the best choices. We frequent the Beaumont location and will continue to do so. Might try this one again if we are wanting to try something the Beaumont location...
Read moreUpdate 11-27-24 Decided to dine in for dinner. Atmosphere is ok, poor choice of music for the theme. Combo #1 the grilled shrimp were overcooked, grilled fish was good. The mixed veggies were soggy, watery and not flavorful. Fried Shrimp were overcooked as well, very chewy, fries were cold. Never saw the Waitress again after bringing our food. I had to ask the cashier for a box. Got a bottled Coors Light from the "bar" and it was room temp, not ice cold as it is supposed to be. Just really disappointed and will not return.
The food is ok.... The boiled shrimp were red and had red liquid/oily stuff all over them. They did have a good flavor. I just didn't care for my fingers to be red and I had to use Dawn dishwashing liquid to get it off and fingernails stained. Fried catfish was on point w/a cornmeal batter as it should. Fried shrimp were good. French fries soggy. Boudin ball was ok, had an after taste I can't explain and do not care for it. Potato salad was ok, chunky and sweet. Mom's Banana Pudding is something to be desired. This restaurant does have a drive thru if that...
Read moreIt is a great treat to fall upon hidden treasures. Bayou Cafe in Vidor is worthy of you going out of your way to go for a meal. They have three menues; Regular, New Orleans, and Specials. I had New Orleans Shrimp and Grits and my wife chose Shrimp Gumbo with Potato Salad off the Regular Menu. We topped off that Outstanding with a seving of Mom's Banana Pudding. The outstanding meal was a superb mixture of spices and main ingredients served in a beautiful presentation. The atmosphere is clean and nostalgic with posters of timeless actors and singers mixed with musical instruments coupled with signs and placards. The server, Arabella, asked if we had visited before and after our negative response explained the menues, ordering procedure, and took us to the bar forvexplaining our options. She was extremely effecient and friendly. Great find....
