Gulf Seafood Market — Restaurant in Villa Rica

This is, without a doubt, the best kept 'secret' in the entire Atlanta Metro area!!!! Their food is phenomenal--FRESH gulf seafood (brought from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, straight from the boats) twice weekly. Where else are you going to get fresh, never frozen shrimp here?? Not only that, their prices are unbelievable! A 'half and half' shrimp/oyster Po'boy with a generous serving of piping hot fries for $9.99???? Are you serious??? Yes. I am serious. And when you order that Po'boy, you will see the sweet proprietor reach into that case of lovely seafood on ice that they sell, count out a generous portion of those gorgeous shrimp, and head back there to hand batter them and fry them up for the BEST Po'boy you will ever much on. The bread? Authentic French bread from--you guessed it--the US Gulf coast. How do I know this is authentic? That's where we are from: less than an hour north of the Gulf Coast. When we saw that Gulf Coast, MS tag on the car parked next to this little hole-in-the-wall shop, we knew for sure that when they say Gulf seafood, they mean it. I am thrilled beyond measure to find them! Oh, and did I mention the gumbo? Oh. My. Gosh. Real gumbo. In Villa Rica, GA. Who would ever have believed it. Their fresh seafood for sale is amazing and the prices are, as well. But get yourself a Po'boy and some gumbo, and you will save yourself a trip to NOLA, and get the food they are famous for. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. But, the seating is very limited (3 or 4 booths), and when I say it is a hole-in-the-wall, I mean it. It is sparse, but clean and neat. We walked in and were not greeted for period of time, no one even ask if they could take our order. Finally a young lady come from the back to take our order, I said I'd like a whiting platter with okra and Cole slaw. The young lady said " I'm sorry we don't have okra, or Cole slaw." So I said okay I'll take a whiting sandwich and fries but because of my frustration I changed my mind and I said "that's okay just give me the sandwich". then I began to think more. If I order sides separately it cost $3.00 each per side, so I told her never mind just give me the sandwich. Then my sister in law placed her and we sat down to wait for our order. As we sat there another lady came in and the male employee took her order order which included... you guessed it, okra. I asked her if she just placed a order for okra, she said yes. I ask her if they mentioned that they did not have okra? she said no. The man then told me that I'd ask for broccoli I think I know what I ask for, and my sister in law hear me plus (get this!) Broccoli is not even on the menu. So now the female employee brings our food back and guess what? She had not taken those dang fries off my order and the fish sandwich had the sadness little pieces of fish you could ask for. Every time I order boiled shrimp shell on, I get peeled and deveined. I say to owner this is not what I ordered. Then he and she argue with me about it. I clearly say shell on . They they argue with me,and it makes no sense. I think they know what they are doing,just playing dumb . They try to use language barrier and act like I'm not saying what I'm saying.this has happened 5 times now. Also if I pay cash she always gives me wrong change. Usually 5 to 10 dollars short. I say something ,and get my money back. But if you dont realize she will not correct it. I love the food but owners are ripping people off. Other customers have said same issues when they go there. I know because I saw it first hand.Also I tried to order at 7:50pm and I was told were closed. Hours say till 8:30 . They should change it. Not happy at all. They get no stars. Will not go back.
