First Visit: Dinner with Friends The place was super-busy, which is expected since it is a popular place. My husband and I went to the bar to wait for our friends and a table.
My first impression: this place is very clean, well maintained. The ambiance is spot-on, they took great care in making this place festive. The bar is stunning, meticulously organized, with every tequila known to mankind, and it seems everything else for making fancy drinks. I saw Victoria, Sol, and Pacifico in the cooler to name a few of my favorite Mexican beers. My husband and I first sat down at a galley table across from the bar after getting a drink (see picture). A server, while walking by, offered us chips and salsa while we waited.
Our friends arrived shortly after, so about 20 minutes to us being seated. The menu was eye candy. Although no pictures, the descriptions are thorough and designed to get attention. Our server was attentive throughout dinner, only forgetting once to get my friend a requested soda after she finished her beer. I ordered Montezuma Molcajete for $26. Not only was it the most incredible version I've ever had, I was happily eating leftovers for 2 days. Although not on the menu, my husband requested chiles toreados (jalapeno, usually kept whole, deep-fried or pan-fried with no batter, and typically served with fried onions and lime wedges) They are an amazing complement to any Mexican meal, provided you can handle the heat. I left a very happy first-time customer.
Second Visit: Adult Birthday Dinner A snow storm put this place at our mercy; there were a handful of people here.
This time I noticed there are 2 overhead glass doors, similar to garage doors, adjoined by a regular double-glass door, facing the front of the building (see picture). The overhead doors make it possible, if needed, to section the front area off for groups/parties. It probably also makes party clean-up much easier. The double-doors allow service if sectioned off. What a genius idea.
My husband and I waited for our party at the bar. The lady tending bar filled the role perfectly. She was friendly, informative, inquisitive and beautiful. This time I noticed tequila flights are available, although I decided not a good night for flights. We were again greeted by a passer-byer and offered chips and salsa while we waited for our party. I also noticed the camaraderie between employees and the owner. This is a very important factor in the formula for a great restaurant.
When our party arrived, we were promptly seated by the hostess at a long, colorful tiled table, with plenty of room for the 5 of us, our coats, bags, gifts, etc. A young man gathered our drink order and shortly after we were greeted by our server. He gave his name and let us know he'd be taking care of us. The birthday girl was offered a drink or dessert on the house, to which she requested a pina colada. My husband and I again ordered the Montezuma Molcajete (see picture) with chiles toreados on the side. This time, they were beautifully served on a bed of lettuce and fried onions, surrounded by lime wedges. We also requested grilled nopales (cactus) on the side, which is not on the menu. Delicious! The birthday girl ordered shrimp tacos (see picture). Our server, Scott, kindly took our order, paying close attention to the kids. Their meals came our JUST as requested, which makes parents (and kids) VERY happy. We did NOT request anybody sing happy birthday songs, so I'm not sure if they do that or not. If it had been a kid's birthday, I may have requested. But, I did ask that Scott take our picture. He then offered us 5 colorful sombreros, which had homes above the gaming machines lining the back wall. We got our birthday fame photo (see picture). Lastly, the chef approached our table to inquire about our meal. WOW, how cool is that?
I was a big fan of the owners' previous establishment. It is evident in every way they took their expertise here, to Patron. Highly...
Read moreOh my word, this restaurant gets confused really easily. I called and placed a take out order for two steak quesadillas. One of those steak quesadillas I had asked for it to have only steak and cheese on it. We picked up the order and drove home. Once we got home we opened the bag to find out that one of the quesadillas had ONLY cheese on it. I immediately called Patron and the answering machine kept picking up so I had to keep calling over and over again. Finally after 8 minutes of trying to call them, someone picked up and I explained that they had messed up part of my order. They asked if I would like a refund, a gift card sent to me or another quesadilla. I said, I would like another quesadilla and I would drive right back to pick it up. I was told I would also get a refund for this mess up and the inconvenience it had caused. I get there and I end up waiting 15-20 minutes. The order comes out and they tried to tell me that I owed 10.54. I told them, I had already paid for this order previously. The worker claimed she must go talk to the manager and get this ok'd. The worker comes back and says, "ok, she said you're good to go." That's when I said, that actually I was supposed to get a refund and I was told that since they messed the order up. I reminded them that I drove all the way there again and then had to wait another 20 minutes. The worker said that she would have to go get the manager. The manager comes out and claims that when she talked to me on the phone she said I could either get a refund or another quesadilla. She informed me that I chose another quesadilla and not a refund. I'm like, "ok, so is this a store then?" "Am I'm returning my food (because I did bring back the messed up order and gave it to them) and then you'll give me a refund?" I asked them , "so then I don't get any kind of "sorry" from you guys for this huge mess up and huge inconvenience?" The manager looks at me and said, "nope." "You chose another quesadilla." I agreed with her, and then again reminded her that I already paid for it! How do they not understand that finally getting something the correct way I ordered it, is not a refund. It's fixing an error. Why is it not clicking in their brains?? Anyways, she ends up giving me a refund because I insisted that was what I was told. I get the order and I drive all the way home. (15 minutes). I get home and open my bag to find out that I had received two new orders of the steak quesadilla with only steak and cheese on it. Oh boy!! No wonder why she was getting so mad at me. Couldn't they have just explained to me what was in the bag!? I never asked for them to give me another TWO orders of steak and cheese quesadillas and a then a refund lol. All I wanted was them to fix my order, be sorry for the inconvenience and mess up and yeah, a refund (for the one quesadilla that they messed up on) would be a great way to show that this company cares for their customers and maybe be a little more apologetic. Is that...

My husband and I used to work at an upscale Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston, so we are very forgiving when it comes to wait-staff and minor mistakes. However, some things add up to what amounts to a very bad experience overall and this was one of those times.
We waited 20 minutes for a table when there were maybe at most 5 separate tables in the building. The table we were seated at was empty the entire time we’d been waiting. Ok, not a huge deal.
Music was so loud the waitress mistook my drink order and I ended up with a margarita with beer in it that I cannot drink due to celiac disease. I can guarantee I will be sick for weeks because of this.
Our waitress confirmed that we wanted 20oz margaritas yet brought us both 12oz ones our first round. We ordered a second round of drinks that she forgot about, but we ended up getting 10-15 minutes later. All of this I can forgive.
When it came to the food… my kids were satisfied with their meals. My molcajete came out good and super hot, but not a lot of food or anything mind-blowing to equate the almost $30 price tag. My husband’s plate was as cold as ice. It felt like it had barely been warmed and then sat while everyone else’s plates were made. He had to hunt down our waitress who apologized and took the plate back. 5 minutes later, she said he was being made an entirely new plate. Enough time passes that the rest of us are finished with our meals when he is given this “new” plate… The food was so hot it couldn’t be eaten, yet something that hot and “fresh” would have been borderline burnt. My husband found the one shrimp tail from the shrimp he had eaten on this supposed new plate and we figured out that it was his same exact plate that had just been microwaved (the beef was extremely rubbery) and with a new shrimp kabob on it with some fresh cheese sauce… Ok, if they were just going to microwave the plate and put on a new kabob, it wouldn’t have taken 10+ minutes to do.
Called out the manager (which we have never actually done before ever) who lied and claimed it was a new plate, yet couldn’t explain his used shrimp tail. She did comp his plate, but for the price we paid ($90 for the rest of the food and drinks) considering that the restaurant was completely empty by the time we got food, this was completely ridiculous and unacceptable. I will never be back to visit this restaurant, which is a shame. It had come highly recommended, yet I cannot in good conscience do the same.
EDIT: My Montezuma Molcajete was supposed to come with, but did NOT INCLUDE: Cactus, mushrooms, rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, lettuce… I was apparently missing half of my food.
DEFINITELY WILL...
