My group of 4 ate here because the overall rating was high, but I will not go back. The first thing to note is the font on the sushi menu is cramped, overly stylized, and completely unreadable (think Papyrus with all of the letters overlapping so you can't even visually sperate the words from one another). I gave up trying to read it and settled on ordering ramen instead.

Eventually, one of our group received their sushi. Our appetizers and entrees didn't arrive, and eventually we found out the ticket system had failed, so the kitchen wasn't getting the orders and had become backed up. That's understandable, stuff happens. What was less acceptable: -we had to flag someone down to receive water refills -one of our ordered items just never arrived -we waited 70+ minutes for the food -the ramen came out missing all of the non noodle ingredients (egg, fish cake, vegetables, etc) and with raw noodles

The noodles were raw and smelled wrong. We think they just dropped raw noodles into hot broth and brought it out immediately. We had to again flag someone down to explain the situation that the ramen was inedible and missing ingredients. The manager had to be involved and took the ramen and the appetizer that never arrived off of our check. The entire process took too long to resolve on top of us having sat there we'll over an hour already. They were very apologetic, but there were too many things that went wrong and that were overlooked for me to feel comfortable giving a higher rating. The sushi was fine according to the only one in our group who received their food in a...

This was a horrible experience simply because of the service. First, as I was ordering the server Kyoko said "that's a lot of food" as if I didn't understand what I was ordering. I ordered two rolls and an entree. The comment was the first of many rude and inappropriate comments. My entree was brought out before the rolls. When I asked for the rolls first she replied, "at Japanese restaurants we bring all the food at one time." I replied that I've frequented many and this was the first time I'd heard of such. Her response, " they aren't Japanese. I'm Japanese. I know. Go check with them." This is no exaggeration.

I stopped her and told her that was completely rude. She said it was busy so that's why she was rude. Finally, she brought out the same plates of salmon and chicken and the food was cold. When we asked for warm food she walked off and complained to her manager and made comments about us being cheap. I then asked for the check sans the entrees. I paid and as I was leaving this review she came back to the table to say that her daughter is half black and that she doesn't have a problem with black people. I then asked her to stop.

The manager comes to remove plates and we talk to her and give her the details of our experience. Her response is " I'm sorry that happened I'll tell my boss.

I won't be back and will definitely post on...

I used up my entire hour lunch break at the place and didn't get my food until the very end. The 2 ladies with me both got their food, and finished before I got mine. I asked multiple times about my food and just kept getting "let me double-check" only to them never to come back to me with an update. I finally told them to cancel my order, THEN they brought it out. I had to eat in 5 mins. I told the manager (I think) because she brought the food out to me, she said that the kitchen was very busy.

Disclaimer: it was a very busy day, so I can understand that the kitchen gets backed up, but it wasn't everyone wasn't getting their food, it was just me. Both my companions got their food and I watched 2 tables that were at after us get their food too. I think my food got lost in the mix and I don't feel that they handled the situation correctly at all.

They did not charge me for my meal, and the food was okay (had to eat it so fast I didn't even get to enjoy the flavor).

Overall here are my ratings:

FOOD: 3 STARS CUSTOMER SERVICE: 1 STAR ISSUE RESOLUTION: 2 STARS OVERALL: 2 STARS

I don't think I'll be returning, unless it's not lunch hour... They need to figure out a better system or how...

So, this is a remarkable place. I used to think I knew about sushi. But I've discovered the Truth. Hoki holds the Truth. Truth is contained in freshness, sushi grade fish, understatement, elegance, and culture. Hoki gets high marks in these measures. The gentleman sitting next to me recommended the Live Scallop. It was an “other-world” experience. Existential questions entreated my mind as my pallet was titillated with a combination of fresh and tender scallop, fried mussel, slivers of lime, and shredded radish. Where am l? What good thing have I done? How am I blessed with such a moment? Who is John Galt?!? The Hoki Dragon roll was no less remarkable; balanced, gentle, memorable. I imagined myself Robert Persig, riding in a world of my own upon a metaphorical motorcycle, exploring the deep and textured meanings of the word "Quality". The pictures of Hoki on Google maps don't do justice to the warm nostalgic ambiance accompanied by the sublime melodic keyboard of Paul Cardall. I will return some day in the company of my teenage daughter as she deserves to experience Truth at least once in her life. "Surely", I've concluded, “John Galt was here”.

Amazing! Highly recommend the sushi and the plum wine. It was very busy on a Saturday night, so I do recommend reservations or flexibility to sit at the sushi bar (only room for 5 total or so). Planning ahead will help, and it's totally worth it. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful despite being busy. It rivals any sushi place I've been and will be going back!
