Well, I drove to this restaurant from Suffolk after googling Caribbean restaurants and seeing ratings topping 4.8.
While there I I met the proprietor and staff, all of whom raved about just how good the food is. The proprietor even suggested I purchase more than one entree after having driven so far. He stressed I would not regret it! Glad I didnāt take his advice.
I sampled the curry goat and oxtail, but settled on the jerk chicken. Curry goat was too salty and oxtail just wasnāt good.
I will start by saying the food was just okay; definitely nothing special. The drumsticks were huge and somewhat dry. I tend to purchase organic meats so the size alone threw me. That notwithstanding it was okay. I opted for two drumsticks and a thigh rather than their usual way of serving it with one drumstick and two thighs. I ordered two sides: collards, and Mac & cheese. The sides were excellent!!!
To be fair, I think the chicken just wasnāt freshly cooked. I arrived around 4 pm. I am guessing the jerk chicken was cooked when the restaurant opened that morning, or perhaps was left over from the night before.
Again, the food was not horrible, but certainly not rave-worthy as suggested by the proprietor and staff. Iāve had great Caribbean food before . I relocated to this area from Maryland a year ago. The owner promised I had never tasted food as good as his before. He even referenced the reviews formerly received by patrons. To that all I have to say is each personās palate is different. The food is just okay, trust me!
Because of the distance and first impression of the main course (meat), sadly I will not be...
