Jose Tequilas Mexican Grill and Bar — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

I waz appalled today due to the person who called himself the manager named marcelino whom answered the phone and told us the last seating was at 9:45 p.m.. When we got there at 9:37 he answered the door which was locked and said that they closed the kitchen at 9:30 and they were now closed. When I confronted him and asked him why did he tell us the last seating was at 9:45 he turned to me and said I am not talking to you I am going to talk to the man who called. I told him he can't talk to me like that and we were on speakerphone when we called because it was my daughter's birthday and we wanted to make sure before we drove all the way over here. He then held is in the door until 9:45 and then said will we close at 9:45 I told him he just stood here arguing with us about closing the kitchen at 9:30 and why would he answered the phone and say last seating was at 9:45 when they closed at 10 according to his Google and no other sign was posted To support any changing hours or closing the kitchen at 9:30. Another customer walked up and ask the same thing and he told her that because it was slow they closed the kitchen at 9:30. He refused to give me his name several times and finally after standing there as long as we did another man came up and told me his name I ask for a piece of paper to write it down so I can have the correct spelling he refused to do that and say he didn't have any paper I pointed to the other person said he that lady has some paper. The other employee who heard us arguing with the man came up and gave me a piece of paper and a pen. I thanked the other man and told the person Marcelino that I would get in touch with the manager because he has done this before. He did the same thing before closing the kitchen early when the owner leaves. I have been there later than this and they were still serving food. I would definitely let the owner know and will not be back. This was the worst day and worst customer service experience ever and he definitely spoiled my daughter's Birthday. I definitely feel discriminated against When Marcelino told me he's not talking to me he's talking to the man who called. I asked him what does that matter if we had him on speakerphone when we call because we wanted to make sure that they were open before we drove all the way over there and he said last seating was at 9:45 why would he lie and tell us that and then deny us to come in we made there before 9:45 he kept changing his story and said they closed the kitchen because it was slow when another customer came up and asked. I am so furious I'm going to report this on all my social media and come up there to speak...

Let me start with saying the food is amazing, always has been. And I had always loved it. But today, probably the WORST customer service I've ever had when going there. Enough for me to rate one star.

I'm sure people will look right over this, but let me explain the terrible way my family and I were treated. One: waiter had an attitude from the get go. But whatever, Saturday, it's busy, maybe he had something going on in his life. Two: my children's father had ordered a side of rice, and he was told "he wasn't allowed to" when it came to having it come with his street tacos. The waiter seriously told him, no substitutions. There weren't any. He wanted rice to go with his tacos, that's all. Three: while being in a loud restaurant, he didn't move from one side of the table to the other to try and take orders (with seven of us at the table) so I couldn't hear him at all, and he glared at me when I said I couldn't hear him. Luckily my family did and telephoned down the line what he had said. Four: snatched cups away from in front of my children to get them lemonade. Although generous, he could have been polite about grabbing the cups. Five: Told me my nachos had an upcharge for steak, despite it being an option to choose from in the menu with no indication of it costing more. I've never been charged $5 damn dollars to order one meat over the other, when half the time I get that exact meal when I go there. Six: kept pushing if we were done eating WHILE FORKS WERE IN OUR HANDS. And seven: This POS seriously went up to us, AFTER WE PAID AND TIPPED..... Within ten minutes and told us we needed to leave so someone else can sit there. We were family having dinner together when we never get to see each other, paying customers, and he legitimately kicked us out.

Everytime I've ever been here, I've always had amazing staff and food. And, I've even left a five star review before. But this was the most disgusting example of customer service I've ever had. Not like he, nor management will care. But it was distasteful. I love the food there, but I don't believe I'll ever go back. To the other waiters, you're all hard working amazing people. But to this guy, learn to be a better human. Especially if...

This review is for the Newport News Location. My husband and I came here for the first time tonight because this place has been recommended to us several times and let's just say it'll be the last time we ever come here. When we got there we were seated pretty quickly and given chips and salsa, we waited 10 minutes for someone to even come to our table and get our drink order mind you the restaurant wasn't even really busy. Finally the manager walked up to our table because he noticed me looking around for a server as soon as the manager left our table with our drinker order our server finally showed up. After we got our drinks we ordered our food and didn't see our server ever again until we were eating our food and asked if everything was good. Both of our drinks were empty and he never filled them up he was also never around for us to flag him down to get another refill. On top of that we had these group of friends sitting behind us who were obviously all friends with the manager, he was always by their table talking to them in Spanish and they also had two little kids with them who they weren't paying very much attention to because they were all drinking, the two kids were running around the bar screaming and laughing until finally they got up and told their kids to stop running around and sat them at their table. My husband and I have children of our own and we would NEVER let our children act like that even if we were out with a group of friends. After my husband and I were done eating we waited a good 25 minutes before our server even showed up at our table again only because the manager came by and asked if we needed anything and my husband requested the check which the manager followed that up by asking "tequila?" We said no the check. We paid and left. Seriously this was the worst service my husband and I have ever had.
