Sakura Sushi — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

The decor in the restaurant was cool, and it had a nice vibe to it. Overall, our experience here was absolutely unbelievably disappointing. The food was expensive and not that good. The portions were pretty small, and the display of the food was horrible. Chicken fried rice that we ordered was maybe the amount of 1/4 cup and thrown across the whole plate. The service was probably the worst I’ve ever had in my entire life. Our waitress was horrific. Rude and rushed us through everything. As soon as we sat down, she proceeded to come over and ask what we wanted to order about every minute and a half and got annoyed when we asked politely for another minute or so. When we were ready to order after about 5 minutes of being sat, we asked a few questions about what some of the dishes were, since their menu fails to have any pictures or explanations of any dishes, and we received eye rolls and sighing in return. She would write down what we were asking questions about and then insist on that being what we ordered and try to walk away and we had to say multiple times that we were just asking questions. After she rushed us to order, she completely neglected our table during our meal. We had a pile of dirty empty dishes on the end of our table that she repeatedly looked at and would not get, and did not check on us to see if we needed anything at all. All other servers would not talk to us or help us at all as well, and responded that we were not their table and to wait for our waitress to come over. We sat for probably about 15 minutes after she brought our food waiting to ask what sauces they had available, and when I did she was immediately ignorant about it like I was inconveniencing her. Once we paid our ridiculous bill for 2 people, she grabbed our check and said “ugh seriously only x amount for a tip” rolled her eyes and walked away from us. We still tipped 15% after our horrible experience, and if I’m being honest she’s lucky that I tipped anything at all and stayed kind and patient the whole time. She was by far the worst employee I’ve ever interacted with in any business. The worst place I have ever gone in my life and I will never ever go back there. I am not the review type person at all and I took the time to write a review after this to hopefully save some other kind people the money and time they will waste going here. Absolutely horrific. If I could give negativity...

Today was an interesting day. The food was amazing! It was great that they had so much variety of dishes and the option to choose between sushi or sashimi was the best part. But the problem was our server.

My husband speaks broken English and whenever he orders, our waiter would sigh as if she was irritated and would say "what? Huh? What did you say? Say again?I don't understand" and would just omit his order all together.

After each order, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to have our next order and she would never come to take our empty plates. We brought a baby so when we are finished with a dish, we would put them away in a corner so that my baby would not break anything by mistake but our server would never come by to clean our tables or ask us for more drinks or NOTHING. Whenever she walks by, we would wave or call on her but she just ignored us...

After waiting forever, my husband went over to talk to someone for assistance and seeing him walking to the cashier, she quickly ran over to him and angrily told him to go back to his seat.

In addition, when one of the rolls that we ordered fell on the floor by mistake, we picked it up to keep our surroundings clean and put it on the empty dish. When our server finally came to take our empty plates, she annoyingly told us why we didn't eat this one and if we didn't want it, don't order it. We were very baffled by this and told her that we had dropped this on the floor. She rolled her eyes on us and walked away.

When paying for the meal, we didn't even want to give her any tips because we recieved only HALF of what we ordered so we gave her about half of the tip. When we were trying to walk out to the exit, she came running and blocked us in the middle of the restaurant and told us that we need pay her more. She talked to us as if she was teaching us what 'tipping' is in America. That was when I had enough and asked her for the manager.

I told the manager all the things that have happened today as polity as I could and told her even if I wanted to change our server before, no one came by to help us and that we even went to get some assistance ourselves between the meal. The manager was very apologetic and told us that she would talk to our server.

I love the menu and the dishes. They were so delicious and I would love to come back but the experience with the server was something that I would not...

I've always had a bad experience everytime I come to this restaurant, and to be fair, I've gone at different times and different days of the week when they first opened several years ago. Wasn't much of a "reviewer" back when I came here when they opened several years ago. Otherwise, I would've said something then. But here I am now...

During my first couple of visits, the servers weren't very receptive when taking my order, like I've had to repeat myself to one server. Another server I had didn't speak clear English, so it was a bit difficult to understand at times. I've never had such a hard time communicating with a server before this place. Since then, I've stopped coming here and got similar menu items elsewhere.

My boyfriend swore by it that he didn't have the same experiences I had when he came here in the past...

But tonight, even he agrees that the service was terrible. We sat down and were asked for our drink order. Shortly after, we got our drinks and she started taking our food orders. I started getting really hungry and realized about 20 minutes from sitting down and getting our drinks, our crab salad appetizer still hadn't been given to us. I started looking around for our server to grab her attention. She hadn't even come by to make sure we got any food at our table. It's like she totally forgot us as soon as she got our food order. The 2 men at the opposite end corner of the room that came in about 10 minutes after we sat down got their food before us and the server visited their table several times already. When I looked for her again, she hadn't even come close enough to our table for me to get her attention. Again, feeling totally forgotten, I started looking around for any other servers that could possibly help get our orders... and noone ever even looked in our direction. We were in the corner closest to the front of the restaurant, right behind the front podium where they grab the menus.

I should have also prefaced that there weren't even a lot of people there at the time. Almost all the booths on the side were taken up but the middle floor area, where we were sitting in, only had 3 tables seated, including me and my boyfriend.
