Probably the only place that the owner is Japanese not Chinese because staff there really speak Japanese lol. They serve water like real Japanese restaurants, which they just put the whole jar on each table. I only went there once because it's far from my house but if it's closer I'd definitely visit there more.
I had the sashimi don(a bowl of mixed sashimi with sushi rice) and my mom had the ginger sauce with beef rice. The sashimi don is nothing special, not super fresh but not bad.
Actually here's the deal with Japanese food. The freshness and quality of the ingredients is the main point of Japanese food so I don't blame them on the freshness or quality of their sashimi and sushi because they probably couldn't get much fresh ingredients here in VA Beach.
My mom loved the ginger sauce with beef rice. She said it tasted like the same she had in Japan. I also tried one slice and it tasted good. I hate ginger but this doesn't really taste like ginger. It tasted sweet and the strong flavor of beef.
I took one star off because of their dinner menu. The choices of their dinner are mostly American-Asian/Japanese style sushi rolls, which is disappointing because I really want some traditional Japanese food like Oyakodon or omurice etc. Every time I was about to go there then I looked at the menu online, then my desire to go there will vanish because of...
Read moreI went to Kyushu in Virginia Beach with high hopes thanks to the glowing reviews. I eat sushi all the time, so I figured I was in for a treat. Instead⊠letâs just say I wouldâve been better off grabbing a grocery store roll and calling it a day.
I ordered the Newtown Roll, which shows up looking gorgeousâlightly fried, golden, fish still raw inside (just the way it should be). Unfortunately, it smelled like it had been marinating in a tackle box all summer. Against my better judgment, I took a bite. Big mistake. Huge.
When I asked about the roll and its âuniqueâ aroma, the server told me she still had to charge me because it was a âcustomâ item. Iâm sorry⊠isnât everything on the menu technically custom? You order it, they make itâthatâs how restaurants work.
To be fair, the miso soup was spot-on, and my grandma actually enjoyed her chicken teriyaki box (though oddly, they donât give you rice with it, which feels like serving peanut butter without jelly).
Overall: bad service, fishy fish, and a bill I regret. One star for the soup, one star for grandmaâs box, and zero chance Iâd...
Read moreOh my gosh, I definitely understand why they have so many 5-star ratings! I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, California roll, miso soup, gyoza, and cucumber salad, and every single item was absolutely delicious. The rolls were fresh and flavorful, with the shrimp tempura being perfectly crispy and the California roll tasting light and balanced. The miso soup was comforting and savory without being too salty, and the gyoza had that perfect pan-seared crunch with a juicy filling inside. Even the cucumber salad stood outâit was so refreshing and had just the right amount of tang.
On top of that, the portions were generous, and the presentation made everything look just as good as it tasted. You can really tell they put care into their food. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere made it an easy place to relax and enjoy the meal. Honestly, itâs rare that every single thing you order hits the mark, but this spot pulled it off. Iâll definitely be...
