INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING.... Pictures seen on marriotts website DEFINITELY NOT REALITY We traveled to VA for a day trip to visit with family and friends. We weren't expecting luxury however we weren't expecting to be in an unkept facility, renovations in progress or not. We stayed July 19th checked out on the 20th. Before we arrived, other family members phoned us to tell us "This is not the courtyard we are used to". "The grounds aren't even presentable".." we are requesting our money back and changing hotels." I was thinking surely it can't be that bad. I decided to get there and then make a decision. OH BOY was I wrong. And before I continue, I wish I took pics because, I don't think my words will do it justice. Anyways, this is the disclaimer provided in the email I got for my stay "Major renovations until July 31, 2025 including all guest rooms and public areas. Construction 8am-6pm daily. The Bistro is currently closed and expected to reopen August 1, 2025." Now when I called to inquire about this while on the way there - the man said that "rooms are 99% complete with the 1% being that there was no landline phone available in the room. Ok. I decided to just let it be because at this point we will only be in the room to sleep, shower & check out to get back on the road. We arrive and immediately begin to see why the other family member wanted to change hotels. The grass, trees, shrubbery had not been kept for ages. The grass had to be 2ft high. the building is not even the same color as the pictures on the Marriott's website, its a dusty gray. You almost don't know its a hotel - it looks like a rundown apartment building. no signs to direct you to the front. So riding around the building you can see they are constructing however it doesn't appear to be recently. As in Friday the day before or even weeks prior. we finally get to the front and I am not even sure I can get in as it looks closed. The only indication that it was a working building is that there were cars already in the parking lot. As to not be too long winded (too late lol) The room was newly renovated however, the shower had no shelf or ledge for soap or beauty products - the products they provided were on the top shelf outside the shower so you would have to step out the shower to use it or put it on the floor in the shower with you. The shower door was not even put together properly so the sliding rubber piece kept falling off. The room smelled damp and was very humid unless you turned the air on. So we had that running all night Non-stop. They only had one employee working the front desk and running things to the room that were requested. The door they said we could easily access from the parking lot did not work however even after reporting it to them (which they were already aware of), they continued to tell new guests that arrived the door worked with key access. We even encountered other guests at this door trying to get in. If we hadn't arrived to let them in they would still be trying to get in. I let them know it didn't work and they would need to access through the front entrance instead. We laughed and quickly shared our stay nightmares and went along our way. While checking in other guests were equally upset at the condition and how nonchalant the employee was to the complaints. We were not the only guests who were not aware of the vast renovations and inconveniences we encountered. These conditions are fit for a $50/night stay instead of the $215 I paid. As to not make this any longer than it needs to be (lol), my opinion is to NOT STAY HERE UNTIL RENOVATIONS ARE COMPLETE AND THE WEBSITE FOR BOTH THE INDIVIDUAL HOTEL AND MARRIOTT'S HAVE BEEN UPDATED WITH ACTUAL FACTUAL PICTURES; INCLUDING THE ROOMS NEW RENOVATIONS! Hope this help you make a decision...
Read moreThis was one of if not the most disappointing Marriott stay i’ve ever had. my boyfriend and i are frequent hotel goers as we travel to 4-6 nascar races a year. this time we decided to take a trip to the beach and chose this hotel for the price and distance to the beach. with Marriott, you expect a quality stay. this was not that. to start, the signage for the hotel is non existent. there is a tiny temporary sign off the highway that says “courtyard Marriott” with an arrow that just points down the street. the front view of the hotel looks comparable to condos, not a hotel so it’s very misleading. when we found it, and walked in to check in we were met with heavy reconstruction of the lobby. bricks falling from the ceiling, and a construction crew demoing and wallpapering various parts of the space. If there was any indication of this upon booking a few months ago when i did, it was not advertised in a way that caught my eye. i also think that the stay was rather expensive considering there were no available amenities ex: the bistro was closed, the fitness center was closed, the coffee bar was under construction, and there was no use of the lounge furniture in the lobby. Either way, we persevered. walking though the hallways, the cove base was torn off exposing what appeared to be mold, the walls were scuffed and dirty, there was construction debris littering the hallway, and the overly musty smell was unbearable. the elevators took a long time to move between floors, and at one point in our stay did not work at all. When we got to our room, the door was ajar. we checked in early, and housekeeping was in the hallway so we assumed that they just may not have shut it on their way out after cleaning. the rooms, although poorly laid out, were very clean and updated, the mini fridge was very cold and the shower pressure was great (the cause for 2 stars). We then left for dinner and came back to our room door wide open. i turned right around to the front desk, expressed my concern for the open door and one of the front desk attendants was more then helpful and you could tell she genuinely felt awful. the other front desk attendant was cold, and almost appeared as if she didn’t believe that the door was opened in our absence stating that nobody had requested a key for our room. either way, we got a new room and nothing was missing from our belongings. The new room was highway facing with a balcony, the balcony door did not have any weather stripping to seal the door which make our room sound like we were at the race track all night with highway traffic driving by. The exterior doors around the hotel providing other access points did not unlock with keycards, we tried 3 or 4 different doors and all of the key card scanners were broken or disabled forcing us to only enter the hotel through the main entrance which caused us to walk half way around the hotel due to front parking restrictions. All in all, don’t stay here until construction...
Read moreI've been a Marriott rewards member since 2012. I had my wedding and reception at the Marriott in Greenbelt, MD and spent ALOT of money (that was worth every penny) I was treated with much respect and professionalism. Since then I've stayed in a lot of their hotels and I've never been disappointed in the friendly, kind and professional service. That is UNTIL I entered the Courtyard Virginia Beach Norfolk location. Upon checking in I greeted the "gentleman" at the front desk and asked if I could check in early since I arrived around 11:30 and he informed me that it would cost me $15.00 to check in early to which I agreed. I then proceeded to hand him my government ID to ensure I would receive my discounted room rate. The "gentleman" looks at my ID and tells me HE DOESN'T BELIEVE MY ID IS REAL!!! Explains to me that he was former military or something like that (after I was told my ID was fake.....nothing else he had to say mattered) and my ID does not look real. He walks away with my ID and returns to let me know that his manager (which I never saw) will STILL grant my government discount rate (with the fake ID mind you) but that the breakfast that was suppose to come with it will not be allowed. He then informed me that if I could show him something with my government agency letterhead on it and my name he would granted me breakfast (oh how sweet of you). I informed him how long I had been a rewards member with Marriott and asked if they had me on file using my govt. ID and he informed me that it wouldn't be in the system (but it's funny how my credit card number is always on file). So then I had to inform the company I was with that the breakfast we were SUPPOSE to have available for us these two nights have been revoked because my ID looks fake to the genius at that front desk. (COSTING ME MORE MONEY!!!!) I called customer care and spoke with (George) who informed me that it was up to the manager on duty at the time (Jennifer) who I never saw. So again, after all the money and service I have given to Marriott over the past 5 years I can truly say I was deeply disappointed in the staff at that location. I hope they learn to treat future customers with more professionalism and not like they are trying to cash a bad check with their...
