After a horrible experience with Yendidi Va Beach, I decided to try Metro Mart. I read good reviews about food taste and the portion so I called in to order some fufu and peanut butter soup ($25+tax). I went there after 40 minutes and my order wasn’t ready even though the lady told me 25 min. So I decided to order Egusi with Eba as well ($26+tax). I mistakenly thought this restaurant will give you a reasonable amount of meat and sauce with the price it is charging. The food comes out and the fufu size was great but she only served a small bowl of sauce with 1 drumstick and 1 pc of beef for $25. I was out of my mind but kept my cool. Same goes with the Egusi. It had 1 beef and 1 pc of fish for $26. I immediately brought to her attention about the size of the sauce and the meat portion and she told me that people tend to leave their extra sauce after eating so the portion she gave me was enough. OMG 🤦🏾♀️! I’m writing this review because I was so pissed off for driving 30 min there and having to still wait and being overcharged. She knew that was so wrong and she offered to refund me for both order. But I decided to keep the Egusi if not I would’ve driven there, and waisted time for nothing. So I got my refund for the fufu. Honestly I am so disappointed that I still can’t find an African restaurant in this area that is great for taste, portion size and customer service. Will definitely...
Read moreThis place has been my go-to for African groceries because it’s close to home and there aren’t many other options on this side of the water. It’s a small store, but they usually have what I need for cooking Nigerian dishes, and I really appreciate that.
There’s also a little restaurant attached, and the woman who’s usually behind the counter is always so kind and welcoming.
That said, I’ve been frustrated lately. The last three times I’ve tried to stop by, there’s been a sign on the door saying someone stepped out briefly no timeframe, no contact info, and definitely no one there. I waited around more than once, but the store just never opened.
It’s really disappointing, especially since their posted hours suggest they should be open. I hate having to drive all the way to Norfolk or across the tunnel just to get what I need. I want to keep supporting this business, but I really hope they can get more consistent with their hours or at least leave a number to call when...
Read moreMy husband was just stationed to Virginia and went there to eat. He got the okro and pounded yam to eat in the restaurant, on opening it, the pounded yam was so smelly like it was spoilt and stinky. He told them to come take it away and please get him another one. The owner’s husband came and took the food away, then went back to sit and continued pressing his phone. Then my husband waited a while then asked the man again if they are bringing new pounded yam and he looked up from his phone and said “I don’t know “. Then my husband waited again and decided to leave even though he has paid and didn’t even eat the food. The man followed him outside and asked where he was going, he said he was leaving since no one was attending to him and they are ignoring him. Then the man yelled at him to never come back to their restaurant again. They not only serve spoilt food, but are very rude to customers when you ask for it...
