I had to give this place a chance as I've read about them being the best cheesesteak of 2019. I'm not a philly cheesesteak expert by any means, but I do love to eat and enjoy one from time to time. I also like to know that I don't just have one place to go for a great cheesesteak. The only place I've known for the past 25 years has got to be Philly Steaks on Tidewater Dr in Norfolk. That's all I've known and just found about a few years ago about their Iggle's location in Virginia Beach. Just around the corner on Great Neck road is a place called, Philly Cold Cuts. It used to be called, Philadelphia Cold Cuts when I'd first heard of them back in 2009. I didn't hear too many people talk about them. It's 13 years later, they have a new name and they'd been voted a better cheesesteak than my usual places. I had to check it out.
It's a little drive for me living in Norfolk, but I was on a quest to get a philly cheesesteak. No, I'm not going to drive 6-7 hours with tolls and gas to get a cheesesteak in Philadelphia. I've seen the ones online and the huge squares of diced onions frighten me. I don't need onions on my cheesesteak bigger than my cuts of ribeye steak. That's a whole 'nother story I don't have time for. Back to PCC. I drove 30 minutes in the rain to get to PCC. I'd wanted to get there before the lunch crowd. I get a medium sized cheesesteak with white American cheese with onions and mushrooms. I'd split one with a friend and let it cool down a bit. Upon first bite, I'd noticed the bottom bread toasted. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't used to a toasted bread for a cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was actually really good. We shared some fries which were really good. I'd ordered a take-out for my dinner which was a single burger with cheese, lettuce and tomato and a medium Italian hoagie. The burger was good. The hoagie was really good. Burger and hoagie are pictured. I ate half of the hoagie before taking a pic. I didn't even take a picture of the cheesesteak as I'd eaten it already at PCC.
Upon waiting for my take-out order, I'd noticed that they had an upright Ms Pac-Man/Galaga arcade game. I'd played Galaga which is one of my favorite games. The screen was a little old and outdated. The joystick was a little rough and jammed a bit. I was there for the cheesesteak experience anyways.
I can safely say that I will be back to have a whole Philly Cheesesteak. I was...
Read morePhilly Cold Cuts is a staple in the Great Neck area and when you ask some one where to get a GREAT cheese steak in the area, just know they will point you in this direction. This location is the original location of this family owned business, with the second one just opening at Red Mill! When you walk in, you can see how "homey" it is. There are so many photos around that set the atmosphere. Nothing fancy but it fits! The customer service is always good. If you ever have questions about what is on the menu, the ladies behind the counter are always so nice.
When I come, I get the same thing which is a Hoagie-Style Cheesesteak. This includes chopped ribeye steak with traditional, lettuce, and tomato ($5.99). Then an order of fries!
Philly Cold Cuts has more than just Philly cheesesteaks. They have salads, sandwiches, hoagies, burgers, pasta, and more. Buuut, I have not tried any of those items. I stick to what I know.
Feel free to call ahead and get a to go order or sit down and relax. Philly Cold Cuts has a lot of in and out traffic in regards to orders so that is honestly a great sign.
Quick story: I had some students from Nigeria come for an exchange program and every week they wanted to try something new. I took them here for their first Philly cheese and they were amazed. They still talk about it!
If in the area, I will be back. However, they just opened one near my...

Menu located on the back wall big enough to see wasn't as detailed as I am used to but that's ok. Now I was gonna give 4Stars because the cashier was not to welcoming initially just felt a little dry even when we said it was or first visit. But the owner made up for that as u will see. I ordered a Med cheesesteak my wife a small we ate in. The steaks came out hot and ready. Steak well seasoned fresh bread good amount of meat on and good amount of cheese.
