I love this place! I usually schedule an order for pick up in the late evening. My husband is a chef (works late,) and we love the lamb kabob with a side of chickpeas.
The lamb is tender and juicy with some crisp but not burnt or too dry on the outside. Excellent flavor! And it comes with a generous portion of rice. And naan bread, plus yogurt sauce.
I have no complaints. While the meat portion size is not massive, it is filling, and the price is appropriate. The add-on for an additional lamb skewer is fair, which adds for a better meat to rice ratio if you want to have a bit of everything for later.
There is a lamb kabob taverna platter at Lebanese Taverna about a half mile away, but I find that they only give you 3-4 small pieces of dry, charred lamb, with a small portion of hummus and some not-so-fresh salad.
I have also tried the delicious lamb chops here at Arlington Kabob. Very good. A little pricey, but I imagine that’s because it takes a bit longer to prepare and the price of lamb is fairly high nowadays. It’s nice to splurge once in a while.
Counter staff is friendly, warm, welcoming. The dine-in space is more modest, but it is very clean and the layout keeps the front door and counter easily accessible. Not claustrophobic at all.
I hope Arlington Kabob stays around for a long time. These guys work hard and provide...
Read moreHeadline: Good food but busy place. Should try.
Atmosphere: The inside of the place is nothing special. It's like any fast food place. This place was meant more for pickup rather than a sitdown place, but they do have tables. I wish they could invest more into the seating area, because this could be a fine dinning establishment considering how good their food is.
Food: There are a million Kabob places in the beltway so it takes a lot to distinguish yourself from the kabob place two blocks down, but these guys figured it out. Their ingredients are fresh and the flavor is very good and distinguishable from other popular kabob places in town. I tried both the lamb and chicken and I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and flavorful their food was. The meat portions however are a bit on the smaller size, but you do get a lot of rice and bread, so you won't leave hungry. The bread is really good and it is baked fresh in the store.
Service: This place is very popular and is geared more for take-out, and ordering ahead by telephone. If you go there without ordering ahead, you are looking at a 15-20 minute wait. The staff though are nice.
overall: Very good...
Read moreGyro Review Only - Wanted to like it just looking at it but this turned out to be a pure Lettuce sandwich, where's the meat guys!? They packed the long sandwich with lettuce first and then placed the meat at the top of the toppings, I hate that. Start with with meat first so we can get bites of meat in every bite..... I had numerous bites that were just soggy lettuce.
Meat - I'd say 1/3 of the meat was burnt and very dry, the rest of the meat was pretty dry or caked in sauce. Nothing really stood out on the meat.
Bread - Very spongey type of bread and VERY Chewy. First bite I almost pulled the entire sandwich apart and it almost fell everywhere. Every bite on the bread was overly chewy and spongey type of bread - they do not use a crisp, sturdier type of naan bread which I'm accustomed to.
Just altogether not a great offering tonight. If this is the type of bread they use for all sandwiches then this is a hard pass. Way better gyro's...
