Dominion Lighting – A Division of Border States — Local services in Falls Church

We had a first-class experience with Dominion Lighting and, specifically with Josh Mollet as our designer. We are building a home remotely in the mountains of North Carolina, but are fortunate enough to live close to Dominion. It is certainly overwhelming to consider the scope and scale of a new build, and to think about what you would like the lighting to look like and how you would like it to function when the space doesn't even exist.

We had the absolute best time working with Josh. First, he helped us hone our aesthetic vision, and to build cohesion into the lighting design. He also helped us wrestle with the technical challenges of recessed lighting in high slope ceilings. Through the entire process, he gave us the confidence we needed to easily make decisions and to put the vision into action for our home.

Throughout the entire process, Josh was highly responsive, he communicated with clarity, and he had a fantastic sense of humor, challenging each of us appropriately when we were stuck in some kind of rut. His efficiency is remarkable and his design eye and skill is obvious.

On top of all of this, he produced documentation that clearly conveyed the plan to our electrician, making our recent electrical walkthrough the best one he had ever been on. The electrician told us that most of the time people arrive with little to no clue of what they want, and it is a laborious, frustrating and overwhelming process. We arrived with our Josh plans and knew exactly where things were going to be and what they would look like.

Dominion Lighting's website is clear that you need to make an appointment if you want to meet with a lighting designer. I stopped by the showroom to browse for table lamps and, despite not having an appointment, I quickly was approached by designer Jacob Sarner. I described what I was looking for to Jacob, including my modest budget, and he found several lovely pieces that achieved my goals. Joshua at Dominion Lighting is the consummate professional. The scope of his knowledge of lighting products goes way beyond just what would look nice to the highly technical. He helped on a complex reno/new build and we really got into the weeds on beam spread, wattage, angle of lamp, etc. He was masterful throughout.
