I feel the current owner is actively trying to run this place into the ground in the hopes someone will offer to buy it from him. I've been going to this place off and on for over 10 year and the difference between what the previous owners did and the current owner is like night and day.
The Bagels - Used the made fresh every day and tasted wonderful. Now they are largely flavorless and usually day old hard ones if you get there first thing in the morning. If you arrive later in the morning, the rock hard ones are gone, but then you take a chance on not getting the flavor you want at all. And when I mean flavorless, when I buy an everything bagel and all I can taste is salt and see just salt and the occassional seaseme seed or poppy seed or when I buy a jalapeno bagel with almost no jalapenos, then that's an issue.
The breakfast sandwich fillings were of higher quality under the old owner. The current one just gets cheaper and cheaper. Having said that, if you get a good sandwich, they're generally pretty tasty! Hence the two stars.
The coffee - I'm not sure what brand they actually use, but it the quality is awful. The brand the old owners used was good solid coffee. Not great, but good.
Customer service - The old owners were fairly friendly, not over the top or anything but pleasant to talk with when they weren't too busy. The current owner I can best described as indifferent. The rest of the staff are nice, but seem to always be watching out to see if the current owner is watching them.
The prices - I realize prices go up and that some things have been a challenge to get, but unless their rent has jumped up 300%, I don't understand why their prices keep going up and the quality keeps going down.
But this all put together has left me wondering if the current owner is just tired of running a store he had no real interest in, in the first place and is hoping some poor soul will buy it from him. This place used to be a real pleasure to go to, now its severely hit and miss as far as the food goes. Yeah, I still go on occasion, but its mainly to see if its gotten any better. I'm not quite sure how the people still holding out hope and giving this place 4 or 5 star reviews can do it. It hasn't even been 4 stars in quite some time. if it wasn't the only bagel shop in Ashburn, they'd have gone out of...
Read moreOverpriced, overated with zero customer service, very inefficient and a long wait for underwhelming bagel sandwiches. This is what we experienced 5 times we have been there in the 4 years span we have lived in Ashburn. I love bagels and try giving these guys many chances especially when my wife and I visit Lotte to do some grocery shopping but every single time it has been a disappointing experience. Yesterday was the last time visiting this place unless the owners change or the place gets its act together. The pandemic has weeded out good restaurants in the area and I'm surprised these guys are still in business serving below average and overpriced bagel sandwiches and metting out shoddy service. As someone rightly mentioned in one of the comments, the guy at the front needs to stay at home if he thinks he can get away with an attitude of "take it or get out". The only advantage these guys have is that there is no bagel shop in the 10 min driving radius, once they get competition.. these guys are finished! I know this is a family run business and that's why it is even more important to focus on customer service and making your product stand out and be the best as opposed to charging $8.5 for a stale cold bagel sandwich. Atleast toast the bagel to perfection if you can't guarantee freshness of the bagels. I understand that because of the pandemic it's hard to find good staff but hiring bad ones adds to the inefficiency. There's a boy in the sandwich making staff who is so confused that he literally took 10 mins to make a sandwich and was slowing every around him. You need to watch for these inefficiencies and re-assign him to do something else. Waited 45 mins yesterday in the shop yesterday just to get 2 sandwiches of which one didn't even need to be toasted. Sorry to say but we cannot return to your...
Read moreGood bagels, even after 12 noon I got a late start today and called ahead at 1230 to see if they had sifficient bagels for me to get a dozen. They had plain, whole grain, whole wheat, sesame, poppy, chocolate, sundried tomate and asiago cheese. I missed my everything bagels butstill a decent amt and selection
Owner asked meif I had just called as I think he recognized my voice. I said I did. He said in future I could call ahead in am and he would pull myorder and hold.
Excellent service I thought.reasonable priceof 10.00 on bakers dozen. Nicecrusty fresh bagels although not as dense as my new jersey bageltaste goes but as good as anyI have found in area. Seemed to have many nice deli sandwiches with good price too. Ones I daw with people sitting at cafe out frontl ooked great.
No sign on storefront so look closely at windows next to manhattan pizza.
If you visit here be sire to stop inthe huge asian supermarketto the right. You will be astounded at the freshness and variety of produce and seafood. Great prices, although oddly they wont filet fish as they value the bones and heads for stock. But freshness selection are unbelievable and so are prices on produce fish and meat too. You will start shopping thete like I did. Other chains are high priced and the reduced produce is fresher than the prime at...
