I've been under the care of Dr. Stephen Hinkle, along with his incredible Dry Eye team members Melany and Nicole since the spring of 2025 and I can't say enough about their kindness, professionalism, and dedication. My Severe Dry Eye began while I was on Accutane, and I was told at the time (by previous dermatologists and eye doctors) that it would be a temporary side effect. Unfortunately, it never resolved, and I found myself struggling with life-altering symptoms such as constant discomfort, inability to tolerate screens, challenges with travel, dry climates, wind, and more. It was physically and emotionally overwhelming.
In my search for healing, I reached out to Dr. Hinkle’s office to inquire about Low-Level Light Therapy, which was impossible to find near me in Maryland. I was able to get in quickly, and from the very first visit, Dr. Hinkle performed the most thorough eye evaluation I’ve ever had and I had already seen multiple dry eye specialists. He took the time to explain everything clearly, followed up by email, and has stayed in close touch throughout my care.
My customized treatment plan has included: Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Radio Frequency (RF), & Tear Care. And now we’re adding OptiLIFT, which I recently received a demo of and am excited to continue with. This is a new Dry Eye treatment option which shows that Ashburn Vision Source is keeping up with what is available out there to help their patients.
In addition to feeling symptom improvement, at my recent follow-up scans, we could clearly see that my Meibomian Glands are getting healthier, which gives me real hope for continued improvement. Read moreI love Dr. Howell and have been a loyal customer of this place for the past 3-4 years. Today, however, I walked out of the building feeling extremely dissatisfied with the staff members working at the front. This is not the first time that I have received such unprofessional service. The first time, I received a call from the receptionist regarding an unpaid fee that an assistant, Ms. Donna, forgot to charge us even though she went over all the charges with me and assured me that we would not receive any extra bills! Not only that, but two weeks ago my daughter received her glasses and decided she was unhappy with the thick lenses and wanted to replace it with thinner ones. I discussed the pay differences with one of the other assistants and he charged me $140 to replace the lenses that same day and I paid the entire amount before leaving. Today, I was notified that my daughter’s glasses were ready for pick up. Upon our arrival, Ms. Donna offered to assist us. As soon as she brought out the glasses, she claimed that we still owed them $140 and were not allowed to take the glasses home with us until we pay the amount! I was explaining to her that we had already paid the amount on the day we placed the order but about 3-4 assistants were trying to convince me that we never paid! After 30-40 minutes of wasting my time and being accused of never paying, they double checked their system and finally found the proof that I had already been charged for the amount. After realizing their mistake, I did not receive a single apology from any of the staff members! The only thing I got was, “The good thing is that we found out you paid." An apology would have been nice because there was truly no need for me to sit there for half an hour trying to persuade them that I had already paid off a charge, especially if it was...

My comments from below were heard and he and his staff will revisit the ortho-k consultation to be of more value to the patient, as well, they will be more transparent about what it entails and the associated fee. They made things right with me, and this is why I continue coming back to this office for my family's vision needs.
Been coming to this practice since it opened. Dr Hinkle is great. I just recently took the kids and myself to get our yearly check up and Dr Hinkle recommended I get an Ortho-K consultation for my son who's myopia is quickly advancing. He gave me a pamphlet. I made an appointment to come back a week or so later. I get to the appointment expecting to see Dr Tran, who is the Dr that has most experience with Ortho-K, but instead am told I will be seeing her assistant. At the consultation, I am given information that I had already looked up on the internet, and a pricing list. It took all of 15 mins. When I go check out, I am charged $95! I don't understand why this information could not have been shared by Dr Hinkle at the yearly eye appointment I had two weeks prior. The consultation was not very comprehensive and all the information that was shared was on two sheets of paper. As a loyal patient of this practice I am not at all pleased with what just happened. The office may want to revisit this "consultation" so it doesn’t appear like a cheap attempt to get more money from its patients.
