Bakhtar Bakery — Restaurant in Virginia

While Bakhtar Bakery offers some sweets and bread, it also offers select beverages and various Middle-Eastern cooking ingredients. There were also quite a number of books and CDs in what I assumed to be in the Afghan language. I tried the baklava, cream roll, and 2 of the cookies. Baklava was a little doughy, but the taste was okay. The cream roll, and 2 cookies also had good flavor but were all a little old/stale. The flower-shaped cookie was soft and yummy, while the coconut cookie had a good nutty flavor. The cream roll was kind of flaky but broke apart in chunks. I do not live in Virginia but every 3 months I travel there and while in VA, I pick up enough bread to bring home in freeze. That lasts me till my next trip. Due to COVID19, I was unable to travel. I called Bakhtar Bakery and spoke with the owner. He was extra nice and helpful. He asked me to send him a box and a shipping label and he will do the rest. He kept me informed by email and shipped the bread the way I had requested. I received them today with an extra special bread included in the box. This is an Afghan bakery in a block of Automotive shops. Hardly a place where anyone would look for a bakery. it was hard for me to find it and I was shocked where the GPS is taking me is only automotive shops. But we know how badly Afghans and Afghanistan has been wronged for decades by different invaders. I love Afghanistan and its people for anything inflicted upon them.
