I just started working at Benjamin's a couple months ago and my mind has been blown by the management and staff that I work with. I have worked in many restaurants prior to this one and not a single one can compare to the dedication to patron satisfaction that I have witnessed here. The servers and kitchen staff support each other and pick up each others slack to ensure the best possible experience for everyone that enters the doors. Not a single person is interested solely in their own paycheck but rather there is a mindset of guest-focused teamwork.
An example... Last night a table of 3 adult guests was celebrating a birthday. The elder of the 2 ladies at the table informed me it was her daughter's birthday and requested that I 'do something for her.' At first I didn't know how to satisfy this guest as they did not want to purchase dessert and Benjamin's doesn't sing or gift desserts on birthdays. I took the lady's request to some of my fellow servers and the kitchen staff and management agreed to serve complementary Ice Cream with whipped cream and cherries on top (it looked amazing). Some of the other servers walked over with me and we all said happy birthday as I dropped off the ice cream with a lit candle for the guest. It was a small thing really but the guests were pleased and left smiling. This isn't a requirement for my co-workers but they took time out of their busy night to look out for me and my small table.
Every single night I have worked, I have been supported by my co-workers who run my food, get drink orders when they seat me, correct my mistakes in the kitchen (sometimes by preparing food on the fly for a guest that has been waiting too long and other times by management compensating guests on their checks for items they were unsatisfied with.) The kitchen staff almost always says yes to guest requests for non-menu items or modifications to their food when it is possible and available.
Seriously! If you want something just speak up and everyone in the restaurant will go out of their way to make it happen!
I share this not to toot my own horn but because I think it is a glimpse of the heart of the restaurant staff to go out of their way to ensure a satisfying experience to everyone who passes through the doors. I am exceedingly blessed to work here where there is amazingly fresh and flavorful food being served and the service is sincere, knowledgeable, and generous.
Come check it out if you...
Read moreThe Wife and I frequently have been eating brunch at Benjamin's for a few years now and have never had a bad meal. We had brunch just before Christmas and the waiter gave us each a gift envelope that had a coupon in it, that is opened by a server during the month of January. We decided to try a dinner on 1/16/2016 and got a reservation for 8 o'clock, the waitress opened the envelope we brought and it was a free appetizer. we chose the Spicy Shrimp Martini and I ordered the special that was a mixed grill containing a salad (I got spinach with bacon dressing) quail,Lamb and brisket with side of spinach garlic and I figured I would be full by then and not eat my second side so for some reason ordered tater tots. The wife ordered “Fish on a Pier” Cedar Planked & Brown Sugar Glazed Atlantic Salmon. Our appetizer was great as was the spinach salad. When the main course came was the beginning of the disappointment. Unfortunately my wife started eating and said hers tasted freezer burnt and then went to say that it had a fishy taste,, fresh salmon does not have that taste. we eat a lot of it at home and at other restaurants. Her baked potato was the best part of that $19 meal. she ate half the salmon . My meal had a thin sliver of brisket that after cutting the fat off was half the size, with two chunks of fat that were some reason laid on top.It was ok. the quail was good but over salted and the lamb was so raw I couldn't rip or cut it. The spinach garlic whatever they called it was just flavorless wet spinach. As planned I didn't eat the tater tots but by then wished I had ordered a potato so I could eat something else. we drank tea and water and after the free appetizer the bill was $54 only to go home where got something to eat. we also tossed the other coupon envelope without even opening it. we will go downtown to the 2 places that are close to each other for dinner next time. Also made us think twice that we could possibly get another meal like that if we went to...
Read moreMe and my family came to Benjamin’s for Father’s Day brunch and we had the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had in Lynchburg. Our server Sara did not greet us for 10 minutes or more before taking our drink order. When she came back she took our appetizer order and we also said we were ready to put our entree order in. She said she would not take it because she had to go talk to other customer first. When she came back 10 minutes later, she finally took our order. While waiting for our food, which took AN HOUR to wait for only three people’s food, she never asked if we were ok or needed more drinks. We were not the last ones to enter the restaurant, but we were the last table in the restaurant to get their food behind several parties, including one of eight people.
When we finally got our food over an hour after sitting down, the hash brown bowl had grey colored eggs. We were told that the eggs were that color because of oxidation, though I’ve never seen grey eggs after being scrambled. They had the food remade within 3 minutes, even though it took 45 minutes to get our food after she took our order. For the price and time it took to get our food, it was completely not worth the time, money, or hassle. After telling our server we were ready for the check, she said ok and did not return with it. One of the members in our party was going to speak with the manager about our service, but she cut them off and told them that she would then print it off. I’ve NEVER had a problem at Benjamin’s before, they’ve always had great service and food until today. I would like to emphasize the food was ok, but the service was...
