China Wok — Restaurant in Virginia

My family and I have been ordering from this establishment for at least five years, and during that time, I don't believe we ever had more than one issue over our food.

It's extremely clear that they have since switched ownership.

Order: Out of the past 6 times we have ordered, my food has been wrong EVERY time (I always order the same dish, which only has 2 ingredients aside from the sauce). It's supposed to have a savory brown sauce. Instead, I have gotten a white garlic sauce, a spicy white sauce, and 3 times I got a spicy brown sauce loaded with red pepper flakes (I can't eat spicy food). Every time it comes with a different array of vegetables and if you specifically ask to exclude a vegetable, they usually put it in anyways.

Flavor: Extremely disappointed. This establishment went from 5 stars to 1. Most of the time, my food isn't what I ordered or is too spicy for me to eat (see above). So this is based on the few times I've actually been able to eat my food. The meat and vegetables no longer taste or even look like they are cooked in a wok or on the stove. They look and taste boiled, the sauce watered down. Talking to my family, the vegetables, especially the broccoli and carrots, tend to be undercooked and hard. The only saving grace is the teriyaki chicken sticks and wings. They are still as good as ever.

Pick-up and Delivery: As for picking up a delivery, since they no longer deliver; They will always tell you it'll be 15 minutes. Always. Multiple times now we've shown up and found they hadn't even started cooking yet. Wait times are usually actually around 30+ minutes. We usually have to go sit and wait in the car and they have asked us to call to see if the food is ready yet. Save yourself the trouble and arrive later than they tell you.

Dining in: Nonexistent since the pandemic. Be aware that there is no public bathroom and that only a small sliver of space is open to the public. They have almost the entire restaurant closed off to the public.

Wouldn’t order delivery from this place unless you have an hour and a half or more to wait for it. Ordered at 4:15, the link said our driver was at the restaurant at 4:50, they called and said they were out of an item we had ordered so we swapped it out for another item. I got a new text link and it said that est delivery was 43 minutes, mind you it’s already been 40+ minutes since we first ordered. So basically they cancelled our first order, which cancelled the delivery driver even though they were already at the restaurant. They then had to find a new driver, and said driver had to come all the way from Ashland that’s why it was going to be 43 minutes. At that point i asked if they could just cancel the delivery and i come pick it up, but was told that wasn’t an option because it had already charged my card… so here we are 5:30 ordered at 4:15 and our food...

Food was absolutely disgusting! I asked for a large pepper steak and onions but received a bowl full of onions and peppers. I asked for lobster lo mein but received shrimp “lo mein” it was a regular pack of noodles with shrimp. And I asked for the vegetables with white rice and sauce and even that was terrible. It’s my fault for having such high expectations especially when I paid $35.87. I would never come back to this place definitely a scam and I will be disputing my order.
